Don't forget that drones are a part of the projectile weapon tech tree.
  2. They're the End-Cap.

KD, I just went over your action list. The only problem I have is that you're replacing our level 1 fabbers with level 2. That's stupid, since our level 1 fabbers are still useful for building macro-scale objects, even if they can't build level 3+ tech. Farming tools, armor plates, ship superstructures, etc; they all can be built by level 1 fabbers. Don't replace them

As for research, we need to fit level 4 computers somewhere in our schedule, as high-level computers are a requirement for AI, which will greatly ease our manpower restrictions.

Wherever did you get that idea? Here's a quote from the beginning of the RP...

I think that's the only comment I've made that might to relate to the size of Pegasus. It's significantly larger than 40,000ly.

Now, onto bolters... this IS SB, I guess I should have guessed it was inevitable that you guys would find some way to inject W40K into my SGA game. I'll allow you to build them if you want, but consider them to be heavy weapons that you're only using with power armor or from fixed points. For some specific answers...

.75 caliber is about the size of 20mm autocannon ammo, which is pretty massive (we're talking a shell at least as long as your hand and three quarters of an inch thick). I was under the impression that was the pistol-type bolter size and the rifle-types are 25mm rounds. As a result, the weapons themselves are going to be sizeable just due to the fact that the magazine and action are going to be built to that size. As a comparison, the "standard" 5.56 NATO round is about two inches long and maybe about as big around as the average Westerner's pinkie. About 4 times smaller. Without using truly massive drum magazines you're unlikely to get more than 20 rounds in a mag, and large magazines run into mass problems, making them horrid weapons to use at close range.

As a comparison, the batteries that run your plasma assault rifles are about the size of glock magazines and last for about a hundred shots each.

Wraith armor will cancel inertia, to a degree. A properly engineered bolter is going to make a mess of it. However, it must be noted that a sufficiently powerful bolter will have significant secondary affects-- to "blow through" Wraith armor with what's pretty much explosive rounds, you're going to need a lot of explosive. Wouldn't want to use it at close range without shields, for sure. Wraith armor is more vulnerable to energy weapons as a general rule. Hunters, however, do not appear to have similar inertial compensators.

I thought i remember that i was mentioned somewhere that Pegasus was 25000ly *Shrug* oh well got it wrong.
  8. KnightDisciple Justicia in nox noctis.

Checking Lexicanum, it says the bog-standard bolter (aka the assault rifle) uses the .75 round. I would assume bolt pistols use the .50, as Gaunt uses his one-handed with regularity; one could perhaps accept someone one-handing what amounts to a Desert Eagle, but not much more than that.

At any rate, one thing to keep in mind is that there are other bolt round types.
Like acid. Eat that, bio-armor bitches.

But again, with what Forgo just said about clip size, I think it's better to keep bolters in mind as a side project.

PFTW: I'm talking about replacing the Fab 1 with Fab 2 on a 1-to-1 basis at some point. We don't have infinite space, so we have to start swapping parts at some point. I'd be fine tweaking it to just say that we make Fabber 2s as we can, though.

Thrax, what about a Frag-12 with C-9000, that was my original idea. how effective would that be?
  10. Forgothrax Healer of All

You have plenty of space. You'd have to be in the hundreds of fabbers to be worried about that.
  11. WatcherVoid Working on mutiverse theory

I thought we just went over that we have tons of space to spare.
  12. actually...a 'Bolt Rifle' Used as a Sholdier Mounted System for one of those Walking Tank Power Armors you showed us as well as used on Workhorses should be effective.
  13. Forgothrax Healer of All

Not very. Fragmentation get dampened and loses a lot of its energy. At best, you'd manage to copy the effects of the MK19 40mm grenades, which put the Wraith down for about a minute with concussions while they regenerated and then they got back up again. For the time and effort spent you might as well use energy weapons or a full-up bolter.

Satedan artillery succeeds by simply focusing on accuracy and sheer number of fragmentations as opposed to range. It's hard to do that on the man-portable scale, even with PA.

    Knight vs. the good Captain...

I continue the theme of "getting to know each other better", with various bits and pieces of culture and such that we enjoy. I formally express a hope that our two nations can continue to strengthen our diplomatic relations. I express an interest in getting a coffee at some point.
I also talk a bit about leadership, asking general/hypothetical questions of "how do you handle this or that situation". One such general question is one regarding raising morale and working on repairing public relations after an embarrassing mistake.

Captain Pokun's return letters are pleasant. She asks further questions about culture and follows up any openings about your home with friendly but pointed questions, mining for information. She also expresses a hope for future diplomacy and slips in that she would like to see you again. However, your request for coffee is met with confusion-- apparently, the Jahre do not possess a similar beverage. She counters with a request for the two of you to sometime share a Jahre beverage distilled by the best [CENSORED] at [CENSORED] next time she's on Sateda, which won't be for another month or two. She has duties elsewhere, apparently.

Your discussion on leadership stirs her to great heights. You get several pages on leadership in general as well as attachments that appear to be from some sort of field manual (a rather strict one, as the death penalty is prescribed for several rather minor infractions). She asks some pointed questions about the infraction, but her advice sounds very much the product of a very military mind.

In turn, she asks you about what you enjoy doing. She professes a great enjoyment of flying, though she scorns the "clumsy VTOLs" the Jahre use for gate scouting. She also admits to enjoying the competitive preparation of foods and states that she holds the award for best meal in the [CENSORED] three duty cycles running.

Right seems majority went with KD list.

Only thing that seems to have been of debate about my list was starting up the boot camp. Even then if it's decided it's too early to have them in the war effort i can just change it to simply continue uplift efforts.

But really if were not going to use them for manpower then the whole point of the taking them over is well lost, since what the hell is the point of going though this whole effort of uplifting them if we were just going to mine the mineral deposits keeping it as a trade level would have been fine.

Also there the fact that unless the GM decides that the continue to uplift them addresses putting the now out of work peasant into a job their only going to cause a good bit of trouble since A) we put them out of work B) no work no money C) Guess who their going to blame for this D) their discontentment towards us will breed and mutate into something much worse.

Also the fact we need to dig though the none research part of the database sooner or later i would prefer if we did this before we start up open hostile action towards anyone.

Then with the embassy remember paranoia is god here in this version of Pegasus, and the fact we're willing to give them one in less than a single year of knowing one another seems a bit off. But then there's also the fact we've manged to butt in the jahre tech superiority by simply being willing to trade some of our new tech.

Edit: Though we may an interesting impression on the jahre last turn with the tech roll.
  16. KnightDisciple Justicia in nox noctis.

As far as the uplift, I don't see why we can't say that part of the efforts include working to help them shift their economic structure to account for their greater agricultural efficiency.

Also, note that I've relented on the whole "drafting the Tanians" bit. The majority seems in favor, so I'll stop fighting it.
  17. KnightDisciple Justicia in nox noctis.

    Action List updated.
Next turn we can start working to help them train to more modern military methods; I think it would be good to give them a turn to adjust themselves.
PFTW, let me know how you want to tweak your morale action.
Let me know if I need to tweak things regarding the proposed embassy, folks.

Forgo, I'll work up the response to the good Captain soon and post it both here and in the action list.
  18. PhoenixFTW Insert Witty One-Liner Here

Hm... if we want more security, we can construct a dedicated embassy where we were going to build our Omega Site, and build an Omega Site somewhere else.
I think that giving the Tanians a turn or two to adjust to their new economy before we start heavily militarizing them is best, though we can give subtle pushes towards the military this turn. It gives them time to adjust.
Does anyone have any problems with this?
  19. Forgothrax Healer of All

It's going to be several turns until the Taians' economy starts suffering. You have until then to start transitioning them.
  20. Well if we use the Tanians, you better keep to you're word that we're getting them up to Spec Ops Standards.

I also think we may need to work to actively Culturally Absorb them, if we can without too much risk...so we can eventually Annex them...maybee.
  21. WatcherVoid Working on mutiverse theory

I can deal with them being normal marine grunt out of boot camp, But i don't think anything lower than that will be of any damn use in this war.

Then there's the fact at worst we can have them end up like the jaffa were a bit. As in they know how to use the tech, maintain it, maybe some general details about it but no deep understanding of the tech it's self except that they know it's not magic and we're not gods. Oh and shoot worth a damn.

    Good to know.

Also will Fish slap day and Counselor Void insane fishing skills be cannon?
  22. If I do a Movie Night Write it would it be canon?

also, Thrax, I had an idea that we could create a group of Cyborg Ninjas(Based on Raiden in MGS: Revengeance), what techs would be needed to do something like that? and would they be effective againts the Wraith?
  23. KnightDisciple Justicia in nox noctis.

PFTW, put in your revised Morale Booster.
Anyone else who wants something, let me know, post it here ASAP in red.

I continue to explain bits of our culture; I find and include a few select pieces of literature (digital of course). Some Shakespeare, some Tolkien, some Asimov, that sort of thing. I also include some classical and modern music, pictures of visual art pieces, and a few food recipes (translated into the closest equivalent for Pegasus; only recipes that can translate like that get given this time).
I never lie about home, but I remain vague on details like "location" and "population", beyond stating things like how it's got a lot of sub-cultures and such. I probe more gently about her people's culture, home(s), and so forth.
I slip in a mention I'd like to see her as well; I accept the offer to meet on Sateda, expressing understanding of a very busy schedule.
I scan the documents and give my thoughts back, stating that while our military discipline can be harsh, we tend to extract the death penalty rarely, and that many hold ethical stances against it, especially in non-military situations.
I use very general language to construct a scenario where a leader attempted to aid the spirit of his people, trying to inject some joy in their lives, but ended up doing almost the opposite. I ask for non-severe suggestions on how such a leader could try to repair relations with their people, and perhaps lead them to new heights of confidence.
I state an enjoyment of reading and other entertainment, an enjoyment of games that challenge strategic and tactical thinking in various ways, driving new and old ground vehicles, and trying out various sorts of foods.
I congratulate her on the award she is holding onto. I ask what she prefers to fly instead of their VTOLs.

Right, so, bit more meat there. I very carefully didn't mention the Batman suit yet, though that might be next communication, and I definitely didn't mention "I like testing new Power Armors we make".

    Fish slap fight day

Because one day counselor void was bored and thought of something to spice the day up.

To kick things off counselor void will go hunt down the mega swordfish on the Lantea using only a puddle jumper piloted by Sheppard, a personal forcefield so he isn't crush by the depth, a ancient anti grav pack and a force weapon. Why? well since he promised he would cut a wraith prisoner with a sword fish after they were captured and he won't back out of this promise. The rest of the day will be spent using fish in place of other weapons in a glorious battle.
