  1. Citrakite It's no fun when you know the trick already.

Hunter seems to be from well past our time right now. I'm not sure the Dark trooper was very wide spread in it's use to making them would be an issue.
Why? The updated Z-95AT4 was outclassed by the Clone wars and the Z-105 isn't exactly keeping up either.
  2. Tabi AsukaQuest Has Infected Me With Cat Ears

The Hunter or Oppressor are limited due to the their expense and the few Admirals or special organizations that deign to use them. Same goes for the Defender especially. Developing a custom version is possible, but don't expect it to be easy nor fast. Superior Technology will make it easier, but it won't be as clean cut either way. The Dark Trooper program also saw limited deployment only within Elite ranks of the Imperial Army, though certain elements within the Emperor's inner circle were allowed to make use of many special soldiers.

Generally speaking, though, the Z-95 is ways better than the standard TIE Fighter. However, at the same time it doesn't compare to the TIE Interceptor.

Either way, the Z-95 series and modern Headhunter is best suited for militias and training props.

My plan is to have tiers in the military: The more valuable you prove yourself the better shit you are given and the more latitude you are given for picking your assignments. If you prove yourself a legendary ace pilot, you may well be flying a starfighter that costs as much as an entire squadron of whitebread TIE/In flying coffins. Ships will probably be carrying mixed bags of whatever we have available, homogenization be damned.
  4. Tabi AsukaQuest Has Infected Me With Cat Ears

A Squadron of regular TIE/in fighters rounds up to around seven. Even a wing's (Seventy-two) worth doesn't add up to a Defender. Maybe an Avenger. Probably Hunters, or TIE/Adv
  5. Hectonkhyres Impressed with Florida Man's Work Ethic

Understood. Doesn't affect the principle though.

Frankly, I plan on researching TIE variants that don't exist in canon: Things like the Tie Defender are glorious... but they are mostly missing the point of large scale imperial strategy. You could make something a little bit less flexible but even more murderous by stripping off the torpedoes, hyperdrive, ion weapons, and tractor beam and using the saved mass for more rapidfire guns, shields, and engine... and probably make it cheaper to boot.

It suffers from trying to do everything. It manages... and manages beautifully... but there is no sense making one to do everything when you can make five that do the one thing you need them to for the same cost.

I'd be content to just not have the pilots that actually prove themselves die on me. That will involve changing tactics and basic changes in engineering.... using turrets to allow strafing and whatnot... as much as making technological sky-gods.

Yeah, but Hect, post Imperial Breakup, the current TIE strategies (Have more, cheap units than the other guy), isn't going to work. As the situation devolves further, Imp Remnant groups, like us, Pentastar and the like, simply won't be able to afford the manpower cost of having to trade two-three TIEs for an A or X wing.

Imperial Strategy is excellent, assuming you can make the trades needed for it to work, in the Post-Endor galaxy, it will become slowly less viable.

Admittedly, more specialized variants than the Defender would likely be a good idea. I'd keep the torps, gives it the capability to strike back against corvettes and gunships, as well as more effectively support capships, but the ion cannon could go on most variants, as could the tractor beam and (possibly) the hyperdrive. Possibly with a hyperdrive capable variant for lightning raids.

Also: I think I'm going to get generic tech upgrades, then use those to grab or recreate more advanced TIE variants.

Would hiring pirates to do stuff count as an infiltrate+raid action, or what?
  7. Tabi AsukaQuest Has Infected Me With Cat Ears

It would count, yes, but for the most part its like bribery; counts as either a minor or major infiltration/raid.
  8. Hectonkhyres Impressed with Florida Man's Work Ethic

Alternately, it could count as hiring auxiliaries... which you have a rule for.

Ask yourself... which will you run out of first: Resources to pour into truly high end TIE-variants or potential pilots? Hell, in a worst case scenario you could slap in cheap droid pilots and play Seperatist.

I'm content to find the point of diminishing returns.
  9. Citrakite It's no fun when you know the trick already.

Z-95 shared the rugged design of the later X-wing so one shot doesn't make it spiral or crash. It's sublight speed was sucktastic and it's handling not as good as X so the Tie flying faster and tighter with equal or better lasers.

The Republic used it as a CIS craft rather then front line fighter so they saw it was more a A-10 then F-15. I think I once referred to it as the P-40 of SW fighters. When it came out it was quite good but then WWII started and it got left behind rather quickly by newer designs to the point of being outdated by '44.

    @Hecton
    Both.

Good pilots don't just hatch out of a pod as you need them and the Droid's were shitty pilots replying on even bigger zerg rush tactics then Tie Fighters used. That's why I have to upgrade the TIE''s to Talon's IE proto TIE Avenger's.

You can't avoid to lose Expensive fighters like that due to inexperienced pilots.
  10. havocfett Shadow Cabal Token Muslim

In a given battle? Pilots. You can only carry so many ties on a ship, and on, say, an Acclamator, Strike Cruiser, or other ship with a very small complement, that material difference is important.

Droids tend to be terrible pilots unless you put in loads of resources.

Starfighters, with the shipyards I have, simply won't be an issue. The problems will be quality and pilots, in most instances. I have super-awesome pilots due to my traits, so improving their ships gets me much more out of them.

And, again, we very well might have to deal with enemies with more resources than us, which would make things...tricky with a 'disposeable TIE' doctrine.
  11. I´m just waiting to get into the game as soon as enough of you have died off

Think another 2-3 dead needed :p
  12. RocketMedic Red Dirt Democrat

That's why I'm equipping the Centrality with them. They're better than the TIEs most of the Empire flies, can do duty as whatever they need to do, and they're dirt-cheap. For the time being, the Headhunter is a viable fighter on a budget.
  13. RocketMedic Red Dirt Democrat

And...the Centrality has tried the Kool-Aid
  14. Tabi AsukaQuest Has Infected Me With Cat Ears

    That was ballsy, RM. :)
  15. havocfett Shadow Cabal Token Muslim

    Dude, ballsy. Really, really ballsy.

    I approve.
  16. Interesting move.

Probably the best one you could do considering that you are nearly right next to Mon Calamari. Should make it possible to circumvent a bunch of your neg traits by simply ordering the good stuff from your pretty friends :)

Should also be rather difficult for any imperial forces to actually effectively stop you. Worst case is probably getting assassinated by some rather disgruntled minion.
  17. Citrakite It's no fun when you know the trick already.

So the cameos started without me.
  18. Duncan_Idaho Cosmic Sword

If I don't get something up today I'll post early tomorrow morning!
  19. Hectonkhyres Impressed with Florida Man's Work Ethic

I still have more to go but I should be able to get the rest in before update. Tabi knows everything I am planning anyway.
  20. Duncan_Idaho Cosmic Sword

OK my shit'll be up in 30-45 minutes!
  21. havocfett Shadow Cabal Token Muslim

Urrgh, should be able to finish the IC stuff for my post today.
  22. havocfett Shadow Cabal Token Muslim

Have the post just about finished, sorry for crappy narration, been busy all week.

Edit: The hell's at Nir that could've found the stealthed Strike Cruiser?

    To wookiepedia!

....oh fuck me. Sideways. With an everything.
  23. I am noticing a lack of remaining/new players moving into the IC with old ones falling out ^.^
  24. havocfett Shadow Cabal Token Muslim

    Bad News: I found Thrawn.

Really Bad News: I found Thrawn.
  25. JKuz THIS IS A TITLE

    *Ahem*

[British]Yes quite. A fine observation old bean. I too have noticed this trend, with both excitement and trepidation, as I as well would like to partake in this fine example of multiparty imagineering[/British]
