It seems as though the signature thing is a permissions error, as is editing. I don’t know/haven’t heard about links. They should have been working.
What? Signatures are editable in your http://forums.spacebattles.com/account/ page. Click signature, change it as you wish.
To those that haven't fixed you sig links yet, try to use URLs instead of Quotes to shrink the spacing wastes. Thank You.
Also, in the current theme large blocks of quotes look atrocious, so having a sig full of them is an eyesore.
Question with the possibility of images in signatures are we going to have a size limit? Since I'm thinking of putting a 150px tall one in and ain't sure what to think right now
I am wondering is there a way to make that line between post and signature thicker? I consistently keep on going and reading some signatures as part of the post.
Yes... we need the lines separating the Posted words of the poster and the Sig'd statements separated either more bolded or slightly more whiter if the background is black/grey or maybe purple for both the white & Grey/Black Background...
I third the request for a much more obvious and visible demarcation between the post itself and the sig line.
I don't think there is any plans for changes of the temporary styles till the main SpaceBattles one is finished.
Recycling this thread for a new purpose. Post has been edited and is up to date. In summary, the rules around signatures are something like this: The "recommended" maximum (which is sporadically enforced) is somewhere around "5 lines of text at 1024" (and using my own signature as an example of a "try not to go above this"). There may be a little bit of flexibility here. No images. (Ref here) Forum emoticons don't count as pictures. Rules about quote tags are: Quote boxes add +2 lines to any text inside the box. Additionally, for aesthetic reasons, use of quote tags/blocks should probably be limited to just the one, or avoided entirely - if you want to quote and provide a link to the context, just turn the quoted text into a link instead. Rules about Font size is straightforward: Smaller fonts are better (as they mean you can have more text per line). The "five lines" applies to normal sized fonts. Having larger sized fonts in signatures is discouraged. And, yes: Empty space does counts as lines, since it takes up a similar amount of vertical space. This is accurate to the best of my knowledge as of the 15th of March 2013. And I'll keep pointing anyone who is in violation of the Grooming Standard here.
I think the 'five lines of text at 1024' was supposed to be a size limitation more than anything else- i.e., if you put in a quote block, it takes up three lines of text equivalent, or whatever. But as far as I know, yes, no images, and your solution to quoting is, as always a good one. That said, oversized signatures have always been sporadically enforced; some people I've seen have ridiculous ones.
Aye, and since people can (or could) turn off seeing them... (And because I don't want to do that.) Well, basically whenever I see someone with a ridiculous signature, I point them towards the rules. Since there's a general lack of a decent compilation of those rules (aside from maybe this thread), that usually means, instead, telling them what I've understood the rules to be, which amounts to the above.
For quote boxes in signatures, it works like this: Quote by =1 line text in quote box is equal to the number of lines Empty space between quote box and next set of words in your post=1line. So essentially, a quote box with just one line quoted, is equal to 3 lines to the signature line count.
I've done it for mine, but a line is still a line I think... It's a good idea, mind. EDIT: To make my own sig more aesthetically pleasing, I've removed a few extra bits and transferred them to the field available in the user preferences called "About me".
Five lines. Whether the emoticon counts as a picture I don't know, presumably not. As far as I can tell, it abides by the rules and could probably be held forth as a good example of how to do it right.
