  1. Durabys Your little Eldritch feline demon..meow!

    Ok. Thanks. :)
  2. areoborg Would you like to make a contract?

The forum's emoticons don't count as pictures.

I'm sure the "5 lines at 1024" could use updating - that rule was made ages ago. I'm quite sure my laptop resolution (which is not near the highest) at 1366x720 is more common.

Hmmm... yep, according to this, 1366x720 is the most common resolution, with 85% of used resolutions higher than 1024x768.

Anyway, on another note, I wish we could have quote boxes banned from sigs; barring that, better enforcement for people with more than 1 quote box (since two quote boxes with just 1 line violates the rule, and is just really annoying.)
  4. iBorg Dark Schtroumpf

Eh, I didn't notice this... thanks Jonen for the heads-up !

...now where do I edit my sig here....
  5. Jonen C F.M.D.G.

So what I've been doing - and iBorg is thanking me for - is probably toeing the line of spamming or playing mod.
Anyone I come across in normal posting that has more than seven lines, an image or two or more quote boxes in their sig I've been posting this (or a slight variant) on their profile page:

Occasionally with a suggestion on the easiest fix - get rid of quote tags or spaced lines.
So far I've got eight or so "thank's for the heads up" to one "you're playing mod", and I'm willing to stop doing this the instant anyone tells me to.
Better to ask forgiveness than permission?

That's the impression I've always gotten from people on SB when I remind them of the sig rules, too. Honestly, though, SuperS4 has gotten pissed off at me about it.

I think the sig rules are the only rules on SB that the mods get pissed off at you if you report someone for violating, or tell someone they're violating. :p

With the XenForo Changeover its good to have feedback on your sig if it could use a little TLC.

"Dude, you got a bit of ketchup on your face" is a useful think to point out to someone, so thanks.

Upper right of the page, there's your user name. Click on it to get the dropdown menu. Below your avatar is a column headed by "Personal details" and the next entry below that is "signature".

    Or as per this:
  9. Splattercat The New Guy

I, actually don't have two quote boxes in my sig.
It's actually three lines, a space and a quote box.

So, it doesn't check off any of the above boxes (less than 7 lines, less than 2 quote boxes, no images)
  10. Isil`Zha The Divider of Heaven

Yes, but quote boxes look awful in sigs, and take up 3 lines of space for 1 line of content. Better to just hyperlink the text and attribute it to the poster.
  11. Jonen C F.M.D.G.

Let me just copy paste for posterity:
    From here:
Goku:"Sir! Excuse me, I'm trying to talk to my friends! Hey Vegeta, we're friends now right?"
    Vegeta:"F**k Off."
    Goku:"The best!"

    :To here.

Three lines, blank space, quote box with one line (so three lines as per earlier), for a total of seven lines. It IS a very superficial violation, just on my self imposed limit.
No space between the three lines and the quote box and I wouldn't have noted it, and no quote box = no problem.
  12. Splattercat The New Guy

Actually, not even then. 7 lines by your definition doesn't violate your "more than 7 lines" warning sign, quote box or no.
Less than 2 quote boxes and no images means there is no violation there.

I've had no intention of adding to my signature, but if/when I do, I'll keep this in mind.
  13. Jonen C F.M.D.G.

Ah! I had a dumb at some point. Typed "more than seven" when I meant "seven or more".
  14. Lord Squishy Shadow Cabal Member

Weirdly, I don't think I'd mind as much if it wasn't for the quote box. They really make sigs look huge.
  15. Jonen C F.M.D.G.

Indeed: Splattercat's sig has less text than mine. But the quotebox makes it bigger (and I use smaller font).
  16. Splattercat The New Guy

    Bah! Shifting goalposts!!! :p

I'll change it at some point in the near future.
  17. Jonen C F.M.D.G.

Ack! He's on to my plan! My vision of an SB where no signature exceeds five lines of text at [arbitrary screen resolution to be determined at a later date] is shattered!
  18. Lord Squishy Shadow Cabal Member

What you say in jest I say in truth. :ragetestregular:

I dream of an SB where all can live free of long signatures, smilies, and image macros!

  19. Splattercat The New Guy

....But for the moment, it bothers Lord Squishy. :)
  20. Jonen C F.M.D.G.

And were all posts are elaborately thought out, thoroughly sourced, well researched and considered essays, displaying all the wit and eloquence for which the greatest moments of SB are renown.

But lets take it one step at a time, shall we.
  21. Crazael Madness Incarnate

Ok, I am less than clear on the rules... how exactly is my signature breaking them?
  22. Jonen C F.M.D.G.

Bending them. One line, blank line, quote box (+2 lines) with three lines. Add up the total: Seven (and as per Squishy, below: That's a low end estimate).
As per Splattercat, the quotebox is what made me want to bring your attention to the rules.

EDIT: My screen resolution is 1280, which is probably what accounts for my read being different from Squishy's.
  23. Lord Squishy Shadow Cabal Member

    Sigh.

You have four lines of text in a quote box (6 lines), a space, and one line of text for a total of 8 equivalent lines.
  24. Hurin r u haebing porblems?

Still not seeing the problem. It really isn't your business telling people to fix their sigs.
  25. Lord Squishy Shadow Cabal Member

No, we should never tell people when they're breaking the rules. It's not like he's following them from thread to thread yelling at them. Just a gentle reminder: here are the rules, here's how you're breaking them.
