"Thank Thee. We shall make good use of it." I casually slip it into my right pocket.

"That shall be enough, for the moment."

"Yes, Thou may. Thou ought not to worry about it - the only magic that We have seen that enables travels between worlds is the Void. Were any Void Mage other than Thee to offer us such transportation, it wouldst surely be an attempt to weaken Thee of Thine Companion and We wouldst refuse, and Thou will not Thyself be capable of such magic for at least a few years. By that time, assuming time moves at a similar rate in Our worlds, another of my... kin will have already assumed the throne in my place.

Though We care for our people more than most Monarchs wouldst, we do not believe it is of use to worry for them. By the time We can reach them once more the situation will already hath been resolves, and Our return would cause more harm than good. Thus, we are in no particular hurry to reach back to our world."

Oh yeah, I can definately beat that!! I'll finish the first Ranma novel, with manga style illustrations and let some of the workmates read over it, for feedback and opinions.

Thats great! Fast and 2 steps is a truely fantastic place to be. I figure, that I will get better with practice and experience. I can slacken off my practice of that and spend the time in other areas.

Given there are no Ninja in town, are there Samurai? Clan Ninja? Someone I can spar and train against occasionally?

Thats good enough for now. I can refine it more with practice. Picking up specific emotions and so on. I can cut back the training time to half of what I was doing and try to refine it that way. Keeping it on all the time would be such a headache, though, hopefully, it improves my passive detection abilities.

This gives me time to pick up two minor techniques...

Genjutsu: Kai, which I can train in, but have no real Genjutsu to train against. Still, it is focusing on sending a pulse of Chakra through my body.

Chakra Flow: I can use Chakra to amplify and reinforce my body. I can water walk and tree walk and do the Ninja tree Travel if I need to. Now, I need to learn to reinforce my Sword and random things with Chakra to make them tougher without making them into a club. I want my sword to have a cutting ability, but make it stronger so it can cut through more. I can train with Bamboo staves for this. Both cutting through a number of them for cutting ability and strength, and also reinforcing them as test weapons.

Soon...... I will soon be safe enough to travel. Time to pick up some travelling gear. such as a Pack, Sleeping Roll, cooking pots, etc. I also want to make or have made, a Swag. Which can look like This or This. Usually, it is made of Oilskin or Waterproof Canvas. It is the combination of Bedroll, Single tent, backpack, groundsheet. Excellent for travelling by yourself and is lighter than having a seperate Tent and Bedroll. I am strong, but carrying so much will get weighty. I also need to pick up some winter clothes, I have my oilskin jacket, which is awesome, but I have no idea if they have a woolen jumper or the like here.

The house was nice. Cozy, even. I suppose it vaguely reminded me of the one my parents had. Would have. Whatever.

Two storeys, with a kitchen, a dining room, and entranceway a living room and a bathroom on the first floor, and four rooms upstairs and another bathroom.

Significantly too large for just one normal person, but given my intentions, it would probably be just about acceptable.

The first thing I did was furnish it. I set two rooms aside as my "magic" rooms and did everything else perfectly modern if a bit cheap. I had a lot of money, but there's a difference between having a lot of money and not having to worry about money.

With my workshop in place, I stuffed one of the rooms with books, and decided the other could be my workroom. And then I somewhat ran dry.

While I had built the perfect white collar criminal's spell suite, I was rather lacking in the capacity to actually develop magic.

Of course that was why I had months left before anything interesting happened.

Somehow, it seemed rather boring. I had to start working on ways to spice things up a bit.

    Actions:
Acquire books on biology and begin study.
Attempt to grow (soulless) clones of myself for later test purposes.
Acquire scientific sensor equipment (stolen from the manufacturers, if necessary).
Acquire and study books on computer algorithms and programming syntax principles (abstract preferred) for Runic Language creation guidelines.
    Continue healing and rune studies.

"Right almost forgot, how did the shroud thing go with the Godfather? Did having you two there help the girl or is she still in a coma?" After they answer I say, "Well other then that and saying our goodbyes I can't think of anything else."

If I'm allowed to add a bit to the part where we leave.
I walk up to Michel and Sanya and hold out my hands to shake. "It was nice to meet the both of you I can honestly say that the church seems to be better in this universe then in mine. If I'm allowed to be taught by Dresden do think when I have some free time you'd be willing to give me some tips on using a sword?" (NOT one of THE swords) Then after saying goodbye to the rest the the family we leave.
  5. :-) Putting X into Y since...

“No sadly this cannot be recreated as my world is around 600 years more developed than your own and even if I was in my own world I do not possess the knowledge to recreate it”.

“However there are some basic technologies and ideas that I do know of, though none are as advanced as the iphone they would certainly be a step forward from where this world is now. I would also have to talk with your maester to see if my ideas are possible but that can wait for awhile”.

“Do you have anything else to ask of me? Milord and Lady”.
  6. Well, what do you know. I actually can possible end with a pet. I smile a lit and give the cat part of the bar. while it eat I will try to strok it head lightly.
  7. Duzzit Fleet Admiral, UNSC

    Apologies, this isin't the update.

Due to IRL stuff, I don't think I can provide an update till wednesday. Sorry for the delay.
  8. Finbar Minon #34

Life happens Duzzit. More to the point, RL is more important. It's all good.
  9. Lancealot The Engineer

RL stuff worse then you thought?
  10. Duzzit Fleet Admiral, UNSC

Yes. I'm working on the update though, so stop pestering me.
  11. Bad Lancelot, bad. Stop pestering the GM ;)
  12. Lancealot The Engineer

I'm sorry Mum, Please don't turn the car around I'll be ever so good. :D
  13. Duzzit Fleet Admiral, UNSC

Right. Let me get back into a writing mood...

"I see. I hope I'll be a good" Louise pauses for a moment, searching for a word "partner in this, your majesty. Though I do have a request, if possible." she asks shyly.

"If we are to be partners in this, would your majesty object to me calling you by name rather than title?"

Over the next few weeks, you slack off a little in your training to create the first 'Ranma' novel. The field improves whatever natural writing and artistic skill you already had, and since you're mostly modifying an existing story to suit your needs.

Your co-workers complement you on the work, and think it can sell just as easily as Icha-Icha does.

    Indeed.

No Ninja, no Samurai, though occasionally a few ninja do come through on missions, it's unlikely they'd spar with you. There is a small town police force, who you can spar with, but only it's chief can actually use chakra a little(less than a genin), and most are civilians.

    It does that.

You learn this releatively quickly, though obviously you can't be certain of how /well/ it'll work against actual genjutsu.

Reinforcing things like objects is...difficult. Most of the various bamboo staves, and random objects generally shatter if you try to apply even a small amount of Chakra to them, though those that you do it to correctly seem to get somewhat tougher. You haven't tried it on your body, clothes or sword for now though yet.

    Easily done.

Actually, the merchants are impressed by the idea of the Swag, and wish to know if you want to sell the design (as yours, so your name will still be there).

OOC: Sorry about the...mechanical way I responded here, I wanted to get the update out. next one will be more >.>.

The cloning experiment fails, given that your knowledge of magic and of biology is nearly not good enough to do that, and you haven't even begun understanding how/if the soul etc exists.

The acquisition of sensor equipment is easy enough(what kind though?), as you're generally able to purchase or...acquire it.

You get your hands on computer and programming books, and begin to use them as the foundation for a possible runic language for yourself. While nothing's come of this yet, you are on the right track.

Your healing studies continue well, and you're now able to cure most diseases/problems fairly easily. You're definitely not as good as a dedicated medic, but you'd be better than the magical equivelant of a paramedic by now.

Dresden snorts at the title you give Marcone.

"Yeah, she woke up. Marcone was...happy, it was odd to see that."

Michael and Sanya both smile that you'd like to learn "Of course, we'd be happy to spend some time teaching you if either of us is in town."

(I'll write Edinburgh intro/expo next updt)

"You should speak to Maester Luwin then...I can take you to him. Tomorrow however, I'll need you for a long discussion, where we might be able to use your fore-knowledge."

The bobcat allows you to stroke it, purring as you do so. You feel a distinct sense of happiness from the creature, you instinctively seem to know how it feels.

+1 Massive pet gained. Possibly empathetic/telepathic?
  14. Great, now I have some companion. I will have to name it somehow. Hm... I will have to came with something good.

"Alright, my new friend, lets go home.'

I take one last look at the surrounding then go down from the mountain. Before I go toward hidden entrance i will make sure that nobody is following me (well aside of my new bobcat, of course). Once we both inside I lock the entrance. I really don't want to have uninvited guests.

Now, then. i have a pet, nice hide out with lots of supplies and means to travel. I can hid here for long time probably but it don't look like that good option. If I pend here to much time I will go crazy from lack of contact with other people. and every day I stay hidden it will be harder to get out. So I guess I will need to go find some civilization and hope I won't get shoot or worse. what is possible with all this 'Legions' around. So it will probably be better if I do my trip soon leaving this place as my hidden base.
  15. Finbar Minon #34

Brilliant! I'll refine it a bit, listen to feedback and re-write several sections to polish it. However, in order to do anything with it, I need to take it to a publisher..... sadly, they don't have email here. Still, I am planning on leaving soon, and the capital of fire country is the first major city on the road.....

My biggest problem is my absolute lack of practical experience...... I have base skill but lack experience. So, I will politely enquire if the Chief will spar with me to evaluate my skills.
No using Killing attacks and no Shundo.

I need to practice this more..... I have an idea for Ryouga's Iron Cloth technique..... So I need to improve it. Once I can get it better with sticks and rope, then more onto cheap knives before finally, my sword. I am deliberately going slow and cautious with this technique.

If they wish to pay a commission, thats fine. Fin's Swag, as used in the home of Fin the Wanderer. I'll even write up a small brochure romanticizing the history of the swag.
  16. :-) Putting X into Y since...

"If you would be so pleased as to show me where he is and to tell him I am serious Milord. Yes it will be my pleasure to help you with whatever you need" I say to Ned.
I then turn to Lady Stark "It has been a pleasure meeting you Milady".
  17. Lancealot The Engineer

We're off to see the wizards the obnoxious wizards of Edinburgh...
  18. alguLoD Grandmaster of the Order

I pause, standing in the doorway with my back to Louise, for just a moment.

And then I chuckle, in a low, dark voice, before turning my head slightly to face her.

"If Thou hadst not asked by the morrow, We wouldst have suggested it Ourselves, for in Our lands, the Binder and their human Companion art equals."

I turn and face her fully, and bow slightly, respectfully but not subserviently.

"It is a pleasure to meet thee, Louise." Without giving her a chance to respond, I then turn away once more and step out into the night.

Heh. Time to head for the library. Hopefully I'll get there without any interruptions, and hopefully there won't be some sort of cranky librarian around. It's been a while since I read the Light Novels, so I can't remember if there's anything like that. Hmm.
  19. MightyDwarf The Ostrich Sees All

"Yeah, but their leader seems to be more interested in accumulating personal power, than in the ideology."

"I think we should, if for no other reason than to prevent the deaths of thousands of Alliance soldiers, butterfly effect be damned."

    OoC: Timeskip time?
  20. Usandru Apple Moe~

Equipment: Imagine a state of the art high-school laboratory that no dirty students have managed to touch, along with a bunch of particle, EM and radiation sensors and possibly, if viable, an electron microscope. Also a ton of recording equipment and the associated peripherals. Also DNA sequencing equipment. I'm going to need some biology grad students at some point too... >.>

Project (Clones): As the general attempt appears to have failed, step back and rethink. Any of my cells should provide the base material, especially as I have no real concern about age-related breakdown in the clones. Thus simply finding a method (transfiguration?) to restore a single cell to its base (stemcell) state and then applying a fast growth solution (potions) to it should suffice for initial experiments. Will need another potion to dispose of the bodies. Hiding clones of myself in the backyard seems like a spectacularly bad idea. Once initial clone production is working, refinements of the process can be managed.

Project (Symbol Casting Language): Using algorithmic principles for language syntax is advantageous and largely just needs some degree of testing and extensive detail work to be done. The next step is creating an appropriate ideographic symbol system and database to minimize wasted space at cost of ease of learning. Acquire material on existing ideographic writing systems (kanji, hieroglyphs, etc. etc.) and whatever studies on their base components have been made, and begin creating fundamental writing particles based on core requirements of the programming syntax. Acquire mythological material on the aesthetics of trickster archetypes and attempt to base the language aesthetic partially off this.

Also, what month am I on by now?
  21. Duzzit Fleet Admiral, UNSC

You make it back to the hideout without trouble, your bobcat trailing happily alongside you.
Locking the door behind you, fetch some extra food for yourself and your new companion, who enjoys the additional food. After making sure that the place is secure, you go to sleep in one of the barracks down in the bunker.

In the morning, you find that the cat has fallen asleep on the bed next to yours, though you get the distinct feeling it first attempted to climb onto the yours, before giving up due to the small size.

I hate my Narutoverse geography, but I think you're right.

The Chief agrees to your spar, and despite your greater speed, he is quite easily defending himself from your attacks.

He talks, rather conversationally as the two of you spar.

"I'll admit it, you're faster and possibly stronger than me, but you lack skill your attacks" he says, as he parries one of your blows "are too predictable. You need to work on that."

He lunges towards you, as he swings his sword.

It's difficult, you don't really seem to improve in this. You've read about chakra conducting materials, but those are extremly rare, and would need to be put together by a skilled worker, who also knows a bit of fuijinjutsu.

They quickly make you one, and begin selling. While for now, not too many people are buying given the size of the city, the merchants that have been passing through the city are thoroughly intrigued.

"And you good sir, though I fear we now have a long and diffucult journey in front of us." Catelyn replies, her smile slightly strained though only due to the sheer amount of revelations that occured in this meeting.

    Eddard nods.

"Come, Maester Luwin will proboably very much like to meet you." Lord Stark takes you through the castle, taking the time to teach you the basic layout of the keep, as well as introducing you to several members of the staff.

Finally, you come upon a small library. It's rather untidy inside, various papers, treaties, books are scattered all over, though you get the sense that the user can tell where everything is.

Maester Luwin, is a short man, wearing thick robes that seem to conceal many items, and he looks up at the two of you entering, puzzled.

"Lord Stark, may I inquire as to your presence here?" He asks, though he's looking at you quizzically.

"Let's just say that you're going to have the opportunity to learn from -and teach- this young man." Stark turns to you

"If you want, you can show him that device of yours, I'm sure he'll question you on it's uses. I must go and get through several things I had hoped to do tomorrow, to allow us to hold a discussion uninterrupted."
The two of you step through the portal into the Nevernever, space twisting as you emerge through into the realm.

You emerge on a dirt road inside a forest of black trees, Dresden scanning the area wearily.

"We should get through here as fast as we can. Stay close, and look confident, the exit portal is a 20 minute walk away."

The whole area feels...odd. And you've already got the feeling that...something is watching you.
As you rapidly tactically withdraw through the corridor, you hear a shout of "Hey!" after several seconds, but you quickly leave the corridor, and head down the staircase.

You head into the Library, the massive room is filled with bookshelves, and places to sit and study at. It's empty right now, and you begin to browse.

Yang smiles "A good attitude to have."

OOC: I guess... but first, we kind of need to talk on skype, about... you know, you telling me what you actually want to do in it...

OOC: Late April. Dear god the science.

    Olivander's Shop, Sometime Early March.

You enter the shop again, Olivander is sweeping one of the shelves. He looks at you, and smiles.

"Ah, Mr.Lyngsø, welcome If you'd just give me a moment to finish up, we can continue our conversation."

"I must apologise for the break up in conversation last time, but it was an important customer."

He comes off the ladder, and conjures two cups of tea, once again motioning you to sit down in a spare chair.

"I was wondering, if you had any questions about what I said last time, or whether I should continue on a specific path?"

    ---

    Science Related stuff.

You begin to assemble the equipment, though it will take a while for you to get it all, mostly due to limited numbers of some of the equipment you want existing, and while you can steal some things with magic, a good detective team could still proboably track you right now, given that you have no means of apparating etc.

As for clones, your research continues, though it's largely fruitless right now. You're getting somewhere with it, but it'll take several months before you see any real results.

The same with your runic language, though you have begun on an 'alphabet' of sorts for it.
  22. Lancealot The Engineer

I keep walking as I give a slow look over the black trees. "...Right think it'll throw them off if we sing about going to meet the wizard of Oz while skipping down the road?" I let myself smirk at the mental image even as I focus on my peripheral vision.
  23. alguLoD Grandmaster of the Order

    Right.

... I'll need to take notes. While my memory is good (when I actually try to remember things I consider important, as opposed to, say, homework) I'll need every boost I can get, and empiric evidence says that properly taking notes really does help boost your ability to retain information. I'm not sure how much the "field" thingamajig the Omnipotent Bastard gave me will help - maybe it will boost the rate at which I learn things, maybe it won't.

I quickly take a look around for parchment, quill, and ink. There should be some, if nowhere else then on the librarian's desk. If I find any, I'll bring it with me to a table in an isolated corner somewhere.

In addition, I'll grab a few fairly basic books on magic - I don't need to become a master overnight, but I need to at least be able to demonstrate some form of magic on demand.

Therefore, after I absorb the theoretical base of knowledge required to cast simple spells, I'll attempt to cast one fairly safe spell (should be listed somewhere in these books) of each element, to figure out if I have some sort of affinity.

If I can manage that in the eight hours or so I have available to me, I will then attempt to figure out how to drain ink from a parchment, presumably using some mixture of air and water. As a fairly minor spell, it should drain only a tiny fraction of my willpower, even if my "willpower capacity" is extremely low (given ROB, that's certainly a possibility).

... it may not be the most impressive spell ever created, but I'll be damned if I don't have some way of easily erasing mistakes in my writing after I've written it all down. Never underestimate the power of properly taking notes.
  24. Finbar Minon #34

From what i can find, River Country exists between Wind and fire country, I can go north into Rain, or East into Fire Country, and north east is the capital. There are likely other major towns, but that is a destination. I figure thats where the publishers would be.

Query: Banking.....is it pre-electronics economies, meaning I need a bankbook and so on? If so, I will need a Bank account and to set up with the merchant that proceeds are transfered into that.

Nodding in understanding, Fin parries "I am new to the Martial arts." Then he winces as he only just manages to avoid a slice he didnt see coming "I see what you mean. Would you be able to help me with this glaring weakness?"

I figure I will need to learn Sealing if I want to get Iron Cloth as I envisioned. I'm going to have to end that practice, with regard to my clothes and cloth, and just work on slowly improving Chakra flow with regards to my weapons. I will try different methods, from 'filling' the knife/stick to coating it in Chakra and so on. If I feel that this has reached it's limit, then train more on Swordplay, flash-step and Iado, for sudden strikes as I can never improve enough in that.

I will get an advance then, on expected profits as I am sure that he can envision many many merchants and people who travel a lot buying them. I also recommend he make a trip to Konoha and see if they are interested. Ninja seem to use large tents that sleep a team of 4. (as seen in the episode to retrieve the scent bug, just before Naruto spots the busty naked hinata doing kata on the water). It seems to me, that something like this might prove rather popular, if only for convenience in setting it up, low profile, weight and mass.

Then, I can use this advance to purchase other travelling supplies and work out my food situation when travelling. I figure it will be dried rations, so I will need two pots, one for Rice, the other for cooking other stuff to go on the rice, soups and so on. In a nut shell, slowly putting my gear together for when I do move on. I'm not going to do so until the Chief says my sword skills are 'adequate', which they are not right now.
  25. Usandru Apple Moe~

"Ah, thank you for the tea."

I sit, and find myself both refreshed by the sudden chance to engage in conversation, something I've been rather neglecting the past few months since I arrived in this world, and smiling crookedly as the familiar feeling of probing a field of study for advantages surges up inside me.

"Last, you described the general types of foci. Wands and staves being the most common, with those of stone or metal being unusual due to their inability to easily conduct magic, and crystal balls as the most difficult, due to their strange nature. I would assume it has something to do with the arrangement of the crystalline structure of the material coupled with some enchantment procedure, but I suppose I should refrain from making too many guesses until I know conventional foci lore in somewhat greater detail."

I sip my tea, making use of the natural pause to let Olivander take in my musing. I wonder, do wizards even properly understand what crystalline structure means?

"Ah, well, in any case, I'm quite interested in the, shall we say, aspect of foci that make them foci, as opposed to merely lumps of odd material. Though the way magic seems to work, I suppose it is some emergent phenomena that arises when all the discrete individual elements are brought together... ah, there I go speculating again."

Next, I suppose I'll need to understand the advantages and disadvantages of the different types...

My progress was interesting, but slow. The projects had steadily increased my knowledge and understanding of potions, transfigurations, runes and healing, all of which were excellent byproducts and would no doubt leave me excellently qualified for any of the fields in the future, but the projects themselves were slow to move, due to the largely trial and error nature. Since I did not understand most of what I was doing, and did not quite know where to find the information...

Well. Suffice it to say that the disadvantages of not having expert knowledge and no internet to fake it through easy research, meant I needed some other means of acquiring the information, short of simply bulling through all the reading material and experimenting my way to success.

    I needed to recruit.

The process was startlingly easy once I thought of it. I merely had to first find the number of the local university, call their administration, get a list of people involved in the study of biology, specifically cellular biology, call them, and ask them how to get in touch with some biologist or team of biologists with an interest in things such as stem cells, cloning and other peculiarities of cellular biology. A final list could then easily be produced, and all that remained was arrange for meetings to ascertain if these people would be useful additions to my project.

Well, on paper anyway. I saw no reason it should deviate, but no plan survives contact with the "enemy". I suppose reality counts often enough for the maxim to remain true under the circumstances. I would find out soon enough.

    * * *

Having made the realization that my projects would be helped immensely by expert help, I further realized that my other fields of study could be much accelerated by acquiring competent teachers. Of course, magic and competence did not seem to quite "gel" as the saying might go, but there were enough people competent enough within their own fields that they could no doubt induct me well enough in the practical and general theoretical elements of them, leaving me ready to explore the frontiers with my vastly superior understanding of science and rationality. And burning desire to overturn everything about the magical world I possibly could.

The first step, I decided, would be potions. It was one of my weaker fields, and one of the most useful. Perhaps Olivander might know of a lead, but otherwise there were certainly enough other people in Diagon Alley to point me in the right direction. Then it would merely be up to my natural charm, wit and actual competence to negotiate a brief and mutually beneficial apprenticeship.

Either that or just throw money at the problem until it decided to disappear.

    Aaah, wealth.

    Actions:
Chat with Olivander (refer to IC)
Search for candidates for recruitment (cellular biologists with flexible ethics on the subject of cloning and stem cell research) (refer to IC for specific plan)
Search for Potions Teacher (again, plan. Ask around basically.)
Continue Cloning and Rune projects, but on the backburner (like an hour of effort per day to keep it going)
    Massive potions study.
