  2. First!

Depends on your play style. One thing that I always loved about my sci officer is that she's great on the ground. In space, she's nowhere near as effective, especially as the game has evolved to the point where sci abilities aren't as useful as they used to be. Also, I've been told that the Intrepid ships are not very good, but once you've run some STF's, you'll realize that a good sci officer with an effective build will be good at doing crowd control against the Borg. Personally, that's just not my play style, so it hasn't worked well for me.

My tac officer, OTOH, has blossomed. When I have my personal skills running, the team can take out a tac cube in less than a minute.
  3. Thanks, Guess I should have picked Tatical, since Sci isn't that useful anymore.

    Why exactly is that?

MVAE - Multi-Vector Advanced Escort, a T5 escort for Vice Admirals. Most notable for splitting into 3 vectors.

    RA - Rear Admiral.

I'm currently Commander, but this game requires me to plan really far ahead... I eventually will have 3 tacticals, 3 eng, 2 sci boffs.
  5. Yeah, just use your sci as a learner and make your other a tac or eng. You get a free klink character once you hit a certain rank with your fed character. I see lots of those 2 captain types and they're both good as attackers and tankers, respectively. Supposedly the sci officer was much stronger before F2P, but they nerfed her abilities as the game evolved.

After some tinkering with tactics, I'm finding it easier to hit bonuses with KASE than ISE. I did 3 KASEs today and got the bonuses, though that damn carrier always gets to me at the end.
  6. Thanks. Is it possible to max out all the skills, or do you stop earning points at a certain point?
  7. No Can't Max out all of them at Level 50. I have 297,500 Allocated for space and 68,500 for ground for example. As you go up in tiers each point gets more expensive. Also there is diminishing returns so you don't want to bother with going above 6 on each individual skill. Its not to big of a deal if you screw up, a retrain token is only 400C

  8. Is it possible to suspend a bridge officer? I have two tactical officers but picked a science ship, so need a science officer but don't want to permanently lose the tactical officer
  9. Lord Squishy Shadow Cabal Member

You don't have to assign all your bridge officers to your ship, but you can only have as many BOs as you have slots. You can get more slots, though.

I think I have two sci, two tac, and two engineering, though, so you should have enough?
  10. I want to assign a science officer, but get the message you have no space. How do I unassign a officer? Do I have to dismiss him to make room for a new one?
  11. Lord Squishy Shadow Cabal Member

What level are you? I think you may get new slots as you level up.

This is my boffs display, for example
    [IMG]

I'm VA-50, and you can see my ship has five slots- two tactical, two sci, one eng, and I have 6 boffs assigned, the maximum- two of each.

I also have one tactical boff unassigned as a candidate.

If you have no more space and want an officer, you can dismiss him to get that slot back. Otherwise, you can train.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking..
  12. Thanks My ship has 4 slots 1 tatical 1 engineering and 2 science. I already had 4 boff assigned. Was trying to assign a 5th one. Which I couldn't do. will get rid of the extra tactical one I had from my last ship
  13. Kha ~ Fire at Will ~

Thanks for all the answer guys, been really helpful! Considering that Grav wells have 1min cds, is it possible to use GW1, GW1, GW3 in a continuous chain every 15s for 45s, with the last 15s a cooling gap before starting again?

And can the dreadnought cruiser fit a saucer sep console? I recently got wind of it, but I'm not sure if this change has become live yet.
  14. Kostamojen Fleet Public Relations

No, using 3 grav wells wont work. Its a waste of skills anyway, don't need more than one Grav Well.
  15. Kha ~ Fire at Will ~

Alright, so if I want to make a debuffing dps Recon, what should I choose for Comm and LtCom Sci boffs?
  16. Anyone know a good Lt.Commander Science officer skill? How well does jam sensors work? Or the drain shields?

    How does damage work?

I see one item that does xx disruptor damage another item does xy disruptor damage, but the dps is only off by 5 points?

Also Do duel beam weapons do more damage then single beam of the same type?
  17. Its the modifier. Typically Greens have one. Blue two. Purple three. Whites have none at all. If a given weapon type only has five or ten more DPS is has the [DMG] or [DMG]x2 modifier. [ACC] is a boost for accuracy.

    Pretty good weapons guide here.
And listing for all in game modifiers.

Also Dual beams do alot more Damage but your arch is limited to 90 degrees instead of 250 degrees
  18. Thanks that guide helped.

Right now I'm trying to figure out which science officers would be best. Debating between polorizing the hull and jamming sensors. Any suggestions?

Here are a list of sci skills you MUST have on a sci ship (well any ship really):

Transfer Shield Strength (as high version as possible) and possibly 2 of these
Hazard Emitters (can be just HE I)

For other Sci ship skills, it depends on what you are doing. I generally use at least 1 tractor beam just because its a good ensign level skill.

For PVP, I use: Photonic Shockwave, Charged Particle burst (both of which aren't every good for PVE), Grav well, Tractor Repulsors and maybe Scramble Sensors.

For PVE I use: Grav Well, Tykens Rift (REALLY good for Tactical Cubes btw), Tacyon Beam III (trainable sci captain skill), and Tractor Repulsors.

Jam Sensors isn't as good as it used to be, it breaks as soon as you start shooting your target, so its best for something small that can't take a hit and needs to get out of the line of fire (not Sci ships).
  20. stormturmoil Time Drifter

To that I'll also add that Polarize hull is a good choice, since it's both a damage resist buff and immunity to tractors. The downside is it shares a cooldown with Hazard emitters.

Still, for ships without access to attack pattern Omega (or who don't want to use Omega, if they are, for example, using the Attack Pattern Beta+Beam Fire at Will combo), it's very good skill to have, you just have to watch your timing with it.

For another defensive option, Feedback Pulse can be a very nasty surprise, especially for PVP purposes.
  21. Thanks, now just need to find an officer with gravety well.

When you do subsystem targeting, how do you know if it worked? How long do the subsystems stay down for?
  22. Kostamojen Fleet Public Relations

Bridge officers can also be trained via the BO trainer on Earth Spacedock.

You can see the debuff listed on the target. Duration varies.
  23. Ladiesman Spacebattles Maverick

Yeah. Not gonna bother trying to retune my main to use my new Escort. I guess i'll just start a new tac character. I have a feeling i'll never end up using it.
  24. Just played a disappointing ISE. We sync'd well taking out the trans, but then the leftover spheres started playing chicken with us and the team started inexplicably splitting up and doing their own thing. We did everything right up to that point, then the damn timer runs out. Ugh.

During that fuckfest, one of the guys in that team pulled up DPS averages and said that mine was 3700. Where and how did he pull up that stat? I don't see it in the combat log.
  25. Kha ~ Fire at Will ~

Can Repulsors get me out of a gravwell? Deciding between that and polarize hull.

For my other 2 skills I'm going for tachyon beam 3 and GW3. Now to find a nice sci cap to train my boff with them...
