It says on the listing that you need the combined arms edition, so yes, you need Arrowhead. The faction DLCs arent needed to get Day Z working.
  2. Big Willy You're not going to eat that are you?

I have gotten quite a few good deals, Age of empires 3, Metro 2033, red orchestra 2, and advanced warfighter 2 all for a combined price of about 14 bucks
  3. Prince Ire Section XIII

Hmmm, Age of Empires 3 Complete is 75% off. I have a hard copy of AOE 3, but it doesn't like my operating system. Would the Steam version have been updated so that it worked?
  4. Ablurk Pretentious Inquisitor

No, it still has the same exact flaws as the original version. You must run Steam as admin in order to launch AoE3 as admin, and in the process, you will temporarily revert to GDI+ rendering of the desktop. To get the original version running, update it to the latest version and run it in admin mode with Windows XP SP3 compatibility enabled.

AARGH! Just bought Human revolution for 7.50, Find out that my computer can't handle it...

Hate. Hate. Hate. Should've checked the game requirements, but the price was so good...
  6. Voidwalker Zelt Almost as lazy as Yukari~

I know that feel bro. At least, the 'not meeting requirements' thing. I remembered to check for system requirements, which I suppose saved me a bit of money despite the disappointment still being there.

I'm still a little put out that I had to pass on such an excellent deal for Portal 2.

I guess I'll just make do with the other (dozen) games I bought during the sale. Why Steam, why? What did my wallet ever do to you? T_T
  7. DogBoy Keymaster

All these steam sales made me need an extra HDD.

  8. El_Shamro Master of...something...

Welp, I'm pretty satisfied with the sale. I missed but one game I wanted at 75%, and I'm patient enough to wait for the Winter sale.
  9. I wanted Endless Space. :(
  10. Gear Set Moon to Ramming Speed!

I got Skyrim 50% off, today, the last day of the sale.

I got a lot of great deals this week, New Vegas GOTY, Saints Row the Third, Torchlight, and Borderlands GOTY.

    Now to download them all.

I'm going to need another hard drive soon at this rate.

Though I'm kind of sad that I hadn't played that Dungeon Defender demo sooner, or I would have gotten that. It's a lot more fun than I thought it was going to be.
  11. dacis2 Civil Service Aspirant

Got Fortune Summoners, ArmA2 and Just Cause 2. Not bad all in all.
  12. Voidwalker Zelt Almost as lazy as Yukari~

Right, since the sale is over I'll list my plunder (aaaarrrrrrrr, all without piracy!).

    Bioshock
    Bioshock 2
    Borderlands GOTY Edition
    Fallout 3 GOTY Edition
    Deus Ex GOTY Edition
    Plants vs. Zombies GOTY Edition
    Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition
Sins of A Solar Empire: Trinity
    Chantelise
    Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale
Fortune Summoners: Secrets of the Blah blah blah
    The Longest Journey
    Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
    Terraria

A nice addition to my collection, seeing as I now have twice as many Steam games as I used to. And four Games of The Year to boot. Although, I get the feeling there are more GOTY than there are years there have been games...:p

Gonna have to rotate them out though, I don't have nearly enough HD space for them all at once. Heck, I'm going to need to find a way to clear out a whole bunch of space before I can install Dragon Age (which is a freaking huge game).

Thank you Steam, please promise to go easier on my wallet next sale...*whimpers*
  13. PsyckoSama Ia! Ia! Kamina fthagn!

And I fucking missed it. Goddamn it all. I wish they had email alerts for this shit.

Step One: Put all the games you want onto your wishlist

Step Two: Set up an Alert for Dec 1 and check every day for the pre-Xmas deals, and post-Xmas Winter Sale.

Step Three: Buy at 75% off

Step Four: Hope any and all X-mas money covers the bills.

Step Five: Mark next July 1 as the date to start watching again. :p

Steam discounts give boost for developers

Studios tell Gamasutra that price cuts spark greater interest and additional sales even after the discounts expire.
Developers say Steam sales aren't just good for Valve's bottom line. Gamasutra spoke with Valve and several studios which have had their products significantly discounted during Steam promotions, and found that both sales and interest in the games were boosted even after sales concluded.

The Kid never gave too much thought to the intrinsic value of his intellectual property.

Runic Studios' Torchlight, which was released in October 2009, hit its second-biggest sales day ever in the recently concluded Steam Summer Sale. "We find that we get several thousand percent increases in units and revenue on the days of the Steam sales, and unit sales are usually about double the normal for a few weeks after the sales are over," said Runic Games CEO Max Schaefer. Bastion's launch day, which Supergiant Games' Amir Rao said the company viewed as very strong, is now "only our fifth best day of sales ever on Steam due to the power of the promotions we've had the opportunity to participate in."

The Binding of Isaac, Edmund McMillen's Zelda-inspired roguelike shooter, was briefly discounted by 75 percent to a $1.24 price point. Its sales increased 60 times over in that period, McMillen said. While the discounts mean the games go for significantly less than they would normally, the sheer explosion of purchases more than makes up for smaller individual gains. "It's not uncommon for our partners to see [a] 10-20 times revenue increase on games they run as a 'Daily Deal,'" said Jason Holtman, Valve's director of business development. He said most games that participate see a positive trend in sales figures even after the discounts expire.

The findings run counter to allegations from EA Origin head David DeMartini, who said the sales damage intellectual property and discourage users from buying the games outside of special promotions. They do, however, jibe with the philosophy espoused by Valve founder Gabe Newell at the 2009 D.I.C.E. summit. Newell said a weekend half-price sale on its first zombie-slaying co-op shooter Left 4 Dead boosted sales by 3,000 percent, better than even its launch week, without significantly impacting figures at retail.

Agreed, I NEVER would have dropped a $100 bucks otherwise, I choose Steam Deals over buying bacon for the next 3 months.

There is the most absolute proof that Steam Sales are a good thing.

What else has the power to seperate man from the all glorious bacon?

Also, EA can go die in a fire.

Late, but one of my online friends bought me Fallout: New Vegas while it was on sale. <3! Loving that game.

Hmm, wonder when the next steam sale is. I wouldn't mind buying a few more DLCs.
  18. Gear Set Moon to Ramming Speed!

They occasionally have midweek sales, weekend sales, but the next big sale would probably be the winter sale close to christmas if you're looking for something like the summer sale.

There's usually a sale around Thanksgiving too.
