Thanks for the compliment. Regarding my psionics, I was honestly going for the Gundam Newtype angle more than anything else.

I have to ask how do you guys determine what your weapon yields are.

The average weapon yields for most races(in TNT equivalent) will be around mega-gigaton range. For races with kilo-megaton ranges, they would have some advantages such as ships being mass producible, or high firing rates, or something on that level.

For races with some devastating firepower(Like humanity- they are in the tera-petaton range, or the Lyrans, at least relatively), they would need to have some handicaps such as inability to replenish numbers fast, or poor accuracy, or a slow firing rate.


If your asking about how each of us got exact numbers, I just fixed one lance shot from a battleship as 800 teratons and then I did the necessary calcs according to volume, and rounded the numbers up a bit. The other races's yields are.... well ask them yourself.

Unfortunately, I'm not so familiar with Gundam. Could you tell me what they are?

And now reading your updated race stats.... is it possible to tell me the specific effective ranges or accuracy, etc?

In a nutshell, Newtypes are the next stage of human evolution, a result adapting to living in space. Their main characteristics are heightened spacial awareness and the ability to mentally detect and establish a limited telepathic connection with other Newtypes. I basically took that concept and expanded upon it a bit. Here's the wiki article if you're interested:

Honestly, I'm having some trouble establishing effective ranges for my laser weapons. A laser beam packing megatons worth of energy could probably keep going for several light hours before dispersing. I'm thinking that the main limiting factor will be targeting systems. Since my race has no FTL sensors, anything more than a fraction of a light second away requires predictive trajectory calculations in order to obtain a firing solution, and even then it may not work due to enemy ships changing direction or speed. Effective range can be boosted however if a hyperspace-capable sensor drones with hypercomm units are deployed to relay the position of the enemy ships back to the allied ships, greatly increasing their accuracy. Missiles have a range of anywhere from 10 to 20 light-seconds against other ships, depending on speed on direction.

Also, never mind the honeycomb-stacked part. I was originally planning for my ships' missile pods to arrange their silos in a hexagonal pattern similar to a beehive, but I've decided to go with a regular square grid pattern instead.

@Guderian: Can you go ahead and put my civilization on the galaxy map?

I'm stuck on actually writing up my racial summary. It'd have to be big to adequately describe them because of some peculiarity involved.

I did at least do some research into some harder science (theory at least) that using the weapons I'm looking at would be in the mega-gigaton ranges. More firepower is possibly depending on how much physical matter (which will be limited by the size of my ships) could be pushed towards the weapon.

You don't have to get TOO much into hard science. After all, this RP has psionics. Of course, basic stat data is required to make RP-ing battles easier, but you don't necessarily have to make EVERYTHING hard science.

But you can take your time, and maybe see how other players like to play.
