I'd rather know if the subject's possibly way to spicy for safe handling by a novice chef now, instead of being someone who'd test to waters too deeply and get burned with BANNAGE!
Yes, Ramenth already explained it to me. I just asked because it really seemed very weird from Thanatos not to act, and that was what I understood. As I said, that was my mistake.
That one was already deleted, I believe more on the grounds that it was outrageously stupid than because it might have violated our standards. It should be, yes. Vore as a fetish is about sex. If you just have people getting eaten, and don't go into great details, I can't imagine it would qualify as porn or erotica. Otherwise we'd have to remove any story where people beat each other up, or there are horses, or slavery is mentioned, since those could also appeal to some peoples... "interests".
So if we find something that may seem like vore, we call you? And if there is say, some creepy poster who keeps insisting on these "vs threads", you'll fix him for us?
More or less what Ramenth said. Vore, or vorarephilia, is a name for a fetish, which we would much rather not have on SB, on account of it being pretty dire. Playing it for the horror of the concept - not sure what "trope" has to do with anything here - does not actually change this basic fact, and honestly would quite possibly trigger the "no excessive gore" part of the rules. Of course, not all incidents of "there's a story and someone got eaten in it" qualify as vore. Just because there's a fantasy story and a person got eaten by a dragon in it does not mean that it will be nuked off SB on sight for maximum deviancy, for example. The simplest way of checking if something is or isn't vore is taking a look at how much space the author gives the descriptions of it all. If there's one, like say the creepy Tyranid vore guy continuing to be the creepy Tyranid vore guy, drop us a report and we'll drive a tank over his legs, maybe even two if we're feeling generous.
So as long as I don't go creepy in giving away too much or excessive detail, and if by chance I include vore being eaten, to keep it short, simple and brief (and to not give it excessive words), then it's within the Line. Thanks for the clarification. As for checking reports on the possibility on some 'creepy vore guy' continuing to generate Vs Threads, just do your Job. That is all.
Again, Vore means it's a fetish story where either the author or the indented audience is getting off on the whole 'being eaten' thing. That a creature eats someone is not vore. If you go on to describe what the person being eaten feels, and what the inside looks like, and the take us step by step through the process, it is. I would, as a whole, stay away from posting any story that can be summarized as "X gets eaten." You need, you know, an actual plot and the like.
This....though I was also bunching others in this as well aside from the real dangers of society. Edit: In Sama's defense, I know him a bit better then most and he generally doesn't tolerate the same. But...as they say, succeed 1000 times, people are fine...fail once and you are reminded for life. I'm not complaining. Whoever posts things like kids in provocative positions and drools over it deserves to get thier brains splattered. I know. People however will always be people, so the envelope will always be pushed. If everybody thinks and asks "is this appropriate?", practice discretion, then we this current situation won't be a big deal. On the part of SB mods, long as it doesn't go "Ministry of Love" then I'm fine with how they go about it.
I never visited the demised 'Hottie's thread, and can only guess what was going on this 'poodle boners' thread, but this is Spacebattles! Our third most revered meme is 'Put your dick on her shoulder and pee in her bum'. We like a good dirty joke, but does the newer 'stricter' enforcment of the no-lewdness policy mean this is no longer acceptable? What I'm asking is, obviously it's easy enough to tell when picture posts cross the line, when they're borderline it's easy to point out 'There, that bit is right out'. It's a bit more nebulous with text though, where is the line there? We have a grand tradition here on SB of starting threads generally about... [BROB] "Muhaha, I'm transforming all of SB into something they'd probably rather not be transformed into (Pony, Furry, Gender-Swap, All-of-the-Above), Deal with it sucka!" [Random SB'er] "Ohnoes!" [Rest of Thread] "Ha-ha, we are easily amused." Obviously such a thread would be going over the line if it went. [BROB] "Ha-HA!" [Random SB] "Ohnoes! My [REDACTED] are so [REDACTED] I just can't stop [Double-REDACTED] until I [Super-Extra-DoublePlus-REDACTED]." [Rest of Thread] *Bow-chika-Bow-Wow* What I wanna know is, are such threads now Categorically Verboten?
I find it slightly amusing that SB is taking an anti-lewdness stance when a good deal of the threads that I've looked through over the years had riebald and outright crude jokes and pictures. I agree that perhaps you draw the line at pure porn, but this is kinda silly if you ask me. Are you really using the rallying cry of, "Will someone PLEASE think of the easily influenced minors that have never seen a bad thing on the internet and will be corrupted if they see nekkid peoplez on SB?" to justify this? I don't mean this post to sound derisive or condemning. I just find it amusing (as stated earlier) and a tad hypocritical, is all. I suspect that a fair amount of authors, who will instantly get their hackles up at the prospect of ANYONE trying to say what they can and cannot write about, no matter how lewd, crazy, or outlandish, will either leave the forum and find somewhere else to post, continue to post "lewd" content out of spite, or simply stop posting stories. I've seen it happen on other fic forums.
News flash... This is THE INTERNET! ANYONE can Wank to ANYTHING! [Youtube] "Hello, I'm Julia Child and if you're just joining us I was about to shred some of this lovely gorgonzola with this cheese grater" [/youtube] [Random Wanker] "Oh yeah *fap-fap-fap* Oh get in there Julia you Slut! *fap-fap-fap*." Even the old standby of 'Is it safe for work' is useless because.... "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING, BROWSING IRRELEVANT FORUMS ON COMPANY TIME!!?" "GET BACK TO WORK!!"
Please don't be a prat. Its not "heavens forfend, won't someone think of the children?", if you'd been paying attention instead of attempting some sort of artful commentary, you might have noticed that aspect of it is a side issue. Its "Shit, Spacebattles is paid for by advertising, and Advertising folks don't like overtly sexual stuff, please knock it off" Let me be the first to shed a tear for the creepy kiddy fiddler types, the furry fetish creepers, and the underage sexual content freaks if they choose to leave. No really, I am all eaten up about it. I do mean this post to sound derisive.
Continue to post "lewd" content out of spite? Then we'll happily ban them... just like we'll ban you if you don't remove the picture from your signature.
Why yes, I'm cranking one out to your post right now. That's a stupid argument, and you should feel stupid for making it.
And authors can write what ever the hell they like - SB rules don't forbid anyone from writing anything. We - and I mean the community as a whole, because I'm sure there are others beside me who support the mods in this, being that this is a reasonable set of rules to abide by and we are all mostly reasonable individuals - do prefer that certain things written not be posted on SB, though, and discussion of certain things so written is similarly frowned upon. Of course that means that authors who do write things that don't belong on SB who wants to share and get critique for their writing will go somewhere else (either on their own, not wanting to break the rules, or forced by act of mod). And if they find that somewhere else is a better place for their stories, why should they keep posting them on SB. Saying that "some people will stop posting" (or even "I will stop posting") if the rules don't please you is an inherently silly threat.
My, so much hatred. All I did was offer an opinion. And by the way, you might want to double check the FAQ and Rules link in the Intro Forum. They 404'd for me. And really, Thanatos, while I'm glad you got the Don Quixote reference, perhaps a gentle redirection to the rules on signatures would have been better instead of an insult. Edit: And threatening? I did no such thing. I'm merely an acquaintance of an author from TFF who apparently posts stuff on SB as well. He seemed rather sure that he and several other prominent authors (according to him) wouldn't be staying. That's all.
Well, it's all relative. In some other corners of the internet, that may have been harsh treatment, but here it is merely the background radiation.
Really? Simply because they can't post explicit material in their fics, they're not going be posting on SB anymore? I don't think SB is going miss them.
I'm from Dark Lord Potter (if that has any meaning at all). Trust me, one has to have thick skin in order to hang out around there. I'm also a former active member of The Fanfiction Forum, where threads tended to devolve into flame wars from the second post or so. So, no need to warn me about the levels of asshattery and whatnot around here. I'm used to it. =p
