  1. Vampires wouldn't make very good food with them turning to dust and all upon death.
  2. Kuranzyan the Blightwalker

Alex' bigger gripe is the horrendous taste as opposed to the disintegration into ashes.

And... incoming from below, the plot thickens:

Silvan Eldar, Arcman and Aires Drake like this.

Perhaps an explanation from Mercer of what he actually is and the history on how he came to be and how he ended up in Sunnydale might serve to assuage the Scoobies' fears that he is not a demon and has no intention whatsoever of screwing up with Hellmouth as long as he can help it...

    ...

...or it could freak them out even further to know that their new biology teacher is practically the deadliest and most dangerous life form on Earth at the moment...bar Elizabeth Greene and her son of course. :drevil:
  4. While Pariah is still up in the air, Mercer ate Greene, so he's definitely higher up on the food chain than her.:p
  5. Laluzi Wannabe Tentacle Monster

But Mercer hasn't eaten Greene in this timeline yet.

Granted, I still thing Mercer is more dangerous than Greene. Like, he ate Greene, but at this time, there is a Greene still alive in captivity.

And nice snippet, but I think Buffy reacted pretty calmly to the Hunter, all things considered.

    Also...
Personally, I'd have thought Alex would have been a little more neutral, if not disapproving - she's in his way, he's probably having to leash his Hunter from eating her, and most importantly, now somebody has discovered his deadly little pet project. That isn't good for him.

Yeah, but at the moment which are still years away from the total fubar that is the NYC infestation, Greene is still around and alive at Gentek, so...yeah, she's still on the list.

    EDIT: Dang it, ninja'ed!
  7. dz1 Lost in time and space...

I think what Blackwatch_Cmdr is saying is that the fact that he was able to defeat and eat her means that he was more dangerous than her before, and now that he has (and gained some of her power) he is obviously more dangerous.
  8. Laluzi Wannabe Tentacle Monster

Well, yeah. Mercer > Greene; events proved that. Also interesting to consider that he managed to beat her when he was a little under 3 weeks old. She was... what, late fifties? Considering that the virus doesn't age, his half-month of evolution trumped her half-century.

Pariah is just totally uncertain ground. We literally know nothing more of him at this time than him being Greene's son, eternally five or six, and being 'what the virus was trying to achieve'. It's all speculation beyond that. He might bring Mercer to his knees. Mercer might completely roflstomp him. Or they might be complements.
  9. Arimai Seeker

Or PARIAH is forcibly merged with Blacklight and a battle for mental control takes place.
  10. Dimensionist This Hand Of Mine Burns With An Awesome Power-!

To be fair, she wasn't actually evolving during that time - she was just kept locked up, and tests were done on her.

Plus, in-game, Mercer had the support of the entirety of BLACKWATCH to take out Greene's Eldritch Abomination form. Personally, I just kept using tanks and copters - it was faster that way, aside from the occasional Critical Pain Devastator.

@Laluzi & dz1: Of course I know that but unlike Mercer so far, Greene showed herself to be the more virulent life form to everything around her. It's as if all she needs to do is fart and walls will crumble (like what happened in Gentek) :p and then everyone around her will start turning into the Infected...after which, of course, everything goes south. In that sense between Mercer and Greene, she's still the deadlier of the two.
  12. NanoMoose Metaphorical Pigeon

Mercer did have help defeating her - the Bloodtox, the military - and she was obviously weakened once she got loose of her fleshy-armour-stuff. Had she ever gone at him in earnest, one-on-one, on equal ground, with no outside interference, it's possible she could have flattened him. But of the times they met face-to-face, first she threw him around like a toy and ran off, the second she slapped him around again but he got her with the Parasite, and the third she had obviously spent all her strength and Alex was through screwing around.

    Aaaaand ninja'd, sort of.
  13. Kuranzyan the Blightwalker

Nah, restraining the Hunter isn't much of a chore compared to keeping himself in complete control over the Web of Intrigue, because there's at least a few hundred pseudo-psyches floating around in there. While I personally haven't played the game, I estimate the total number of unmutated/uninfected humans this version of Alex Mercer has consumed to be somewhere around 600~700. This includes military and Blackwatch personnel. Ordinary Infected, Walkers, Hunters and variants of these range somewhere in the 1400~1600 in numbers.

New York's a pretty big place, right? Given that in 2010 there'd been an estimated something over eight million people living in it, I'd say it's fairly realistic.

As for him revealing the Hunter to Buffy... well, Alex already said that it wasn't capable of acting without his consent... though whether that's any reason for lowering your guard is anyone's guess.

    Edit: From beneath, it stirs.

Silvan Eldar, Arcman and Aires Drake like this.
  14. Laluzi Wannabe Tentacle Monster

I didn't use vehicles at all. Just groundspike devastator. :D Like a boss. So in my playthrough, Mercer trumped Greene on his lonesome.

The first time, yes, she kicked Alex's ass. Alex was only about a day old and had no offensive powers at the time, though. The second time, no - he let her slap him around because he wanted that opening. As far as I'm aware, that was entirely a ruse on his part - to let her get cocky and then stab her with the vial. Of course, then the parasite had to go eff everything up, but since when does Alex actually think out his plans anyway.

Anyway, as a being, I estimate Mercer to be far stronger than Greene is. Greene was by far more virulent, and was more effective at killing en masse and building an army, but since he om nommed her, it's feasible he can do that now, too.

Hmm, Kuran. I never figured Alex was one for torture. Why didn't he just nom the vampire?
  15. They turn to ash when he hits the brain right? I imagine converts as much of them as he can into biomass before he hits the heart or brain but he can't get their memories because of that.
  16. No brain no info. And since if he brains damaged it turns to ash... Alex needs to get creative.

Also he doesn't have the patience to use means that work either. So he has only torture available to him.
  17. Laluzi Wannabe Tentacle Monster

    Oh, good point.

What's the 'year' right now, 1998?
  18. Kuranzyan the Blightwalker

He can get to the brain and consume it and roughly ninety percent of the vampire's body just fine, but he can't assimilate the memories of the demon possessing the corpse after the original human has died.

As for the year... this is early season one of BtVS. You can look the rest up yourself.
  19. Laluzi Wannabe Tentacle Monster

Oh, so he just gets the memories of whoever the person used to be before they were killed?
  20. Kuranzyan the Blightwalker

Yuz. Since vampires are, in a nutshell, animated corpses possessed by a demonic spirit that is for all intents and purposes a blank slate before being influenced by human memories.

Alex can't consume the incorporeal/'supernatural' as in 'ascended' beings such as the disembodied Sahjhan... or the phantom Spike in A:TS season five, and your average regular vampire 'psyches' fall within this category. Turok-Han are... an exception, but those have little personality to speak of - they're dumber than animals in most respects.
  21. Poor poor Master, well this should be 'fun'.
  22. volrath77 Serial Editor

Uh oh. Methinks the idiot vamp's delirious confession just gave birth to the Monster of ManhattanSunnydale...
  23. NanoMoose Metaphorical Pigeon

Reminds me of Buffy trying to find Giles when he was kidnapped.

Vampire: What are you going to do, kill me?
Buffy: As a matter of fact, (throws vampire through furniture and pins it to the ground) yes! But the question becomes...(she stuffs her crucifix down the vampire's throat and holds it there while it burns) How are we going to pass the time until then?
  24. noahgab1133 My hat is alive!

me likes thread lol. Hmm an angry mercer who consumed greene and has already made a hunter....something tells me he might create more and buffy reaction to an army of giant hungry pack of flesh eating monsters under a tentacled abomination should be equally delicious lol

Are we going to see a Leader Hunter later? If the Scoobies, vamps, etc. think a Hunter is bad, wait until they see a Leader Hunter in action.

Then again, I don't think that Mercer will create lots of Hunters, let alone Leader Hunters unless he wants Blackwatch to come and burn Sunnydale to the ground. Heck, even with just one Hunter, Mercer is risking himself being visible to Blackwatch if the thing goes on public rampage. I think he'll most likely just stick with this one.
