  1. Bjh31 Autobot Commander

    With Buffy & Co tried to stop him killing her latest boyfriend
  2. Kuranzyan the Blightwalker

    Eh, I'm being realistic. Alex survived a crazy amount of things - tank artillery fire, missiles, Leader Hunters, Elizabeth Green, Supreme Hunter. Buffy can do what she wants to him and hope she won't piss him off as she does, but in the end about the extent of what she can do to him is hack off an arm and watch it regenerate almost instantly. Compared to a sub-machine gun firing full tilt for some time, which he was able to shrug off with little problems, what's a stake and a crossbow bolt/arrow going to do to him?

    I'm going for, well, drama, yes, but also with a tiny bit of psychology mixed in, lots of character development of course... and I'm not going to have Alex take over every single fight in the series - that'd just be lame. He might pop up once in a while to take over against some of the more powerful ones, and go out on a patrol every other night to deal with vampire/packs, but he's not going to do her job for her.

    As for Alex constantly complaining about his 'shitty life', eh, don't worry. He's not much of whiner, as far as I'm concerned. That was just him giving himself the equivalent of a big ass facepalm after retrospection. Buffy just happened to be there.

    Ah, Riley, my man. Duck. Now do the funky chicken and hope Alex doesn't see you as poultry.

    ~~~~~~~~
    Brief, more like an Omake. Involving lots of intermediary action. Humour as well, if you want it to be funny.
  3. Space Penguin Eternal crusade for fish
    You would think so and yet there are people who state that Buffy can kill Wolverine :wtf: or better yet there's a fic where mere buffy vampire posed a threat to Naruto ninja and Buffy beat the shit out of named Naruto ninja :wtf:.
  4. Kuranzyan the Blightwalker
    Buffy killing Wolverine I just don't see happening. Even without the Adamantium skeleton he can regenerate almost anything. As for vampire vs Ninja... YMMV. Buffy defeating a Narutoverse shinobi/kunoichi is somewhat justified given that she's a Slayer, though it probably wouldn't be an easy thing to do. Depending on who the shinobi in question actually is, like for instance Tsunade, Gai or Kakashi... She'd be a fair match to most genin without gamebreaking skills, I'd think.
    This is in part inspired by Laluzi's idea for After The Fires Fade. Actually, it's a blatant rip-off, but seeing as he hasn't yet incorporated it into his own story, I think it's fair game. Laluzi, you can punch me later.
    douglas14141 and Aires Drake like this.
  5. Laluzi Wannabe Tentacle Monster
    *punches you for getting my gender wrong... gently*
    But heh, no, that isn't idea theft. I did put it forward, and it's really just a pretty natural assumption of Alex's abilities. Of course, he'd better hope nobody finds out what he's doing in his basement.
    ...actually, wait, no, he doesn't care. :p
  6. Yog
    Hmm... given that the evolution is fueled by struggle and the mutable nature of blacklight, how long will it take Alex to perfect a design that would eat normal hunters (or even a super hunter) for breakfast?
  7. Mithril-blade I like me some Greek helms
    Considering he quite literally has a number of Ph.Ds in Biochemistry, microbiology or just general bioscience, I am guessing not that long at all.
    Hell, he could easily get a job at the local university or high school if he knew how to falsify Documentation. Given that he has eaten a bunch of Blackwatch staff, this shouldnt be unlikely.
  8. Yog
    Yeah, I suggested this in Prototype idea thread. Alex could become a biology teacher in Sunnydale college. Maggy would be certainly interested in him.
  9. Kuranzyan the Blightwalker
    *pretends to be hit* Augh.
    Alex is cautious... and though he couldn't care less about someone finding out about the things he's doing, he does care about Blackwatch potentially getting wind of it... Especially since he is not supposed to exist at this moment in time. Given that he's in Sunnydale the odds are low enough to be considered negligible, but he's definitely paranoid about it.
    He doesn't want a small-scale repeat of what happened in New York, either. Having seen just what a lone Hunter is capable of, he has the right to be wary; Whilst Buffy might be strong enough to stall one for a certain amount of time, he's not willing to gamble on her keeping it occupied long enough for him to arrive and deal with it.
    It'd also lead to a lot of awkward questions for him, which he doesn't want to deal with. Not until he is a hundred and ten per cent sure that he has full control over the new variant of Hunters - hmm, Alex is probably going to give them a proper distinction at some point. Suggestions would be welcome. Personally I strongly feel towards 'Reapers' but that's just me.
    Given that Alex would consume the ones he defeats, discovering faults and imperfections as he goes along, I'd say at least a few years. He's not going to focus on the development of the new variant 24/7, as there's other things for him to do. It's just a side project of sorts.
    It'd also give him a somewhat reliable source of income. Unless the school gets blown up like in canon, while with Alex being present to take care of the Mayor instead of purposefully blowing up the building to kill Olvikan, I don't see this happening, tbh...
    Yeah, I... *snort* heh, you know, I think I'm going to call this a Peggy Sue fic without the Peg. Alex may be from the future and he may be trying to fix things in some manner, but he's completely unaware of the things that happened during the BtVS\Angel tv series. He doesn't have the foresight and knowledge that most Peggy Sue's have.
  10. Mithril-blade I like me some Greek helms
    Well, Carnifex, which means "executioner" always sounds cool.
    Is Alex going to be doing SCIENCE or just generating the biological agents inside himself? I mean, is he going to go for the whole "LAB" get up or is he just going to have a pen in his basement where keeps his candidates until he transforms them?
  11. Kuranzyan the Blightwalker
    Since he has consumed both Greene and the Supreme Hunter, Alex is able to generate the new strain mostly directly from his own biomass. This way there's no need to drag half-dead bodies halfway across town to dump them in your basement to do all sorts of violating experiments on them.
    It'll be touch and go for a while until he manages to spawn a 'proto-form', basically the first stable specimen, which is weaker than a Leader Hunter strength-wise, but has higher durability and regeneration.
    As I've said before Alex is primarily going to look into the 'control' aspect... and until he has that down pat he's not going to intentionally work towards making the new strain stronger than is strictly necessary. He's looking for a good opponent, not ways to get killed, consumed, and leave behind an entity even more powerful and harder to kill than himself.
  12. Mercer has the ability to give others abilities by infusing them with a virus, as he did in the second game. What do you think would happen if he did that to Buffy? She's more than strong enough to survive the virus, and indeed, strong willed to survive it and get stronger as it is.
    shudder Buffy with Blacklight virus. That's a scary thought.
  13. Kuranzyan the Blightwalker
    And not something I plan to do.
    If I did then it would throw everything I've worked towards thus far out of the window.
    No, nobody from the Buffy/Angel cast is going to get freebie enhancements like that.
    - Not while they don't know they can receive such an 'upgrade'.
    - Not while they don't know just what exactly it involves.
    - Not while they have any moral qualms against becoming what they don't want to become.
    Doesn't mean they won't look for other ways to increase their relative ability, though they probably are never going to become as powerful as Alex.
  14. Harry Leferts That Suave Kaiju
    By the way, adn I might have missed this, is Alex capable of consuming actual demons?
  15. Doomsought Sliver Overlord
    Only those with physical bodies.
  16. The question there, I think, is do they have something the virus would recognize as biology.
    The answer there is "radios".
    Then "Hobo Shoggoth".
    So yes. And no.
    Take your pick. :p :D
  17. Alex is vulenrable to magic in the same way Superman is they are very much natural but not in the least Supernatural. He is effectively a physical god or on the way, but Magic is OCP for now or should be.
    He also should not be able to consume any demon that dissipates on fatality including vamps, who go dust when you eat their heads or inject biomatter through their hearts which is what you need for the memories. The former i mean.
    Alex should die to 'I transmute you in to a rat then shoot you.'
    Magical things may retard his regen if they have that trait or at least should unless he simply shapeshifts more biomass there.
    He may or may not count a necromantic.
    Things that cuase necrosis may be effective on him.
    Chaos magic killed slayer strength it should render him vulnerable.
    Mayor may be able to 'scry prepare and die him'.
    Magic aimed toward disease cleansing may work.
    Other than that good story.
  18. Laluzi Wannabe Tentacle Monster
    Does BTVS magic create or destroy matter? Because Alex either has a handy storage hammerspace compartment, or he's extremely dense. You couldn't turn him into an actual animal without seriously flipping off the laws of physics (which, granted, is something Alex does on his own with reckless abandon).
    Alex is already a shapeshifter, so I'm not sure stuffing him into another form would do anything, or even prevent him from turning back into himself moments later.
    Some sort of magical 'purifying' him, though, I can buy.
    Bloodtox did this, so yeah.
    I wouldn't call Alex dead, but he's not strictly alive, either. Viruses (virii?) aren't living organisms, but Mercer's 'I am the virus' assumption seems flawed to me; he's really a conglomerate of assimilated, infected tissue that relies on the virus to survive, and all operates under the jurisdiction of a central consciousness.
    I mean... I guess he's alive? Ish. Not in the sense that anything else living is - he seems able to recover from any injury as long as any part of him exists, so no organs or structures he contains are vital to his existence, but he's more symbiotic with the virus than he actually is the virus.
    Definitely the best idea. Heck, he could even teach in Buffy's class and watch her silently freak out.
  20. Being turned into a rat made you a rat with all that entails. You eat like a rat. You got hurt like a rat. This wasn't physcially transform you into a rat. This was magic 'conservation of mass go bye bye' poof you are a rat now. It's magic I don't got to explain shit beyond reasonable harmonics is a rule.
    Remember Alex may be super-powered and Natural, but he is not super natural. Even his shape shifting is biological much like Superman heat vision or a slime. It the differnece between captain marvel and Superman. Toss magic blast at marvel for X psi he shirks it off. Toss a much weaker but still strong blast at supes it bypass his physical defence barrier and whammo.
    Even if Alex os somehow hack into subspace that can be accounted in science of some sort but still mystical Shape-shift should grab him and turn him and every thing that is him into a rat. No shape-shifting back because that ability is not in the rat genome. Hell the Mayor broke conservation of mass with graduation. Full fledge transformation.
    Unless the author wants to cut through that thorny mess of physic with lol Red light and thus black light are demonic in origin Alex should have an effective mag res of baseline human to magically weak with regards to inhuman targeting and beast taming.
  21. There was some mention of making Blacklight created from Old One Insert Name Here, but I don't remember by who.
  22. Yog
    Yes, he could (remember, depending on timing their biology teacher is soon to be killed, and his replacement, the mantis lady, won't last very long too). I, however, thought that he should become teacher at college. This way by the time Buffy and Co + Intiative and Maggy Walsh arrive, he would have been teaching (and doing research! Just think what papers he could publish with his genius mind and gestalt of a thousand mad scientists! Why, I won't be surprised if he was to become a celebrity in a science field, he may even cure cancer) for several years, and thus above most suspicions. He may even fake being a pacifist (on campus, under some transformation), in order to avoid offers by Maggy and Blackwatch.
  23. volrath77 Serial Editor
    Heck, he could even assume the persona of any one of the scientists he nommed and no one will even know of it allowing him to keep Mercer the Asskicker and Mercer the Harmless Professor apart.
  24. Dakkaface Extra Shooty Wordsmith
    Oh god. What year is he in? I just had a terrible image of him using Professor Farnsworth as a template for his teacher persona. If it's prior to 1999, nobody would even get the reference.
  25. Space Penguin Eternal crusade for fish
    Bah!
    If IIRC, most of Buffyverse are too retarded to do anything like that. It almost always boils down to giving Buffy a chance to show off her 'combat moves'.
    Anyway, if BTVS were given a competence boost than yes. What you propose could pose a threat to Mercer assuming the fact they can hit him before he annihilates them. Remember, this is a 'guy' who can run all across New York without breaking a sweat and quickly at that.
