He doesn't even look scary, see, he's pouting! D'AWWWWW ~~~~~~~~~~ People who know of Alex' presence and what it might mean thus far are mostly the older Sunnydale vampires, plus Angel and the core of the eventual Scooby Gang, i.e. Giles, Willow, Xander and Buffy.
One insane idea: after the school gets blown up (if it gets blown up), and the mayor dies, who is to say, that Alex Mercer, M.D., Ph.D., an upstanding member of the community, a beloved teacher, the founder of the neighborhood watch (of which Buffy and her friends are members, much to their distaste) couldn't be elected the Mayor of Sunnydale? And the demonic inhabitants would vote for him too: after all, he did beat (and eat) the previous mayor. It is only fair that he gets the job. Just some random thought. Probably way off-base. Though neighborhood watch idea has merit. Either Scoobies could get it, when they realize the need for legit firepower, or Alex may think about it, in order to get his favorite students out of jail for vigilantism.
Still alex meeting Joyce and Joyce taking an intrest in him. "Dr. Mercer, I mean Alex. It's late and well you did walk over here from your home and sunnydale is kinda dangerous at night...." "Joyce, are you asking me to spend the night here?" In the background Dawn and Buffy stared in horror. "Well since you incist," he replied with a sage nod of his head. "This will not affect how I treat Elizabeth in class though." Joyce smilled." I don't expect it too,"
Wait, about Dawn. I have to question whether the monks would actually send the key to Buffy, or at least send it in tasty human form.
They might-Mercer is just one more crazy part of Sunnydale, and Buffy is still the Slayer. Glory will FREAK THE HELL OUT when Mercer punches her, though. She's incredibly strong/durable/fast... but so is he, and to her knowledge there shouldn't BE anyone that powerful around. She might make the Old One connection; he does goes crazy eldritch abomination tentacle-doom fairly often. He's also fast enough and strong enough to kill her. She might not be quite so blase' after encountering him. To quote Batman(after he got beat in a martial-arts fight by a crazy villain): "That was a... humbling experience."
Here is what I have wrought so far regarding the inevitable Glory vs Alex Mercer brawl. It's just a small scene, that in fact might not even be used as it stands... but feel free to give your opinion on it. Since there is a lot of time and events taking place between the point where we're currently at and the snippet itself, you might notice Buffy and by extension Dawn are oddly... calm, though if you think long enough the reason for that becomes somewhat obvious.
After the reveal: - Mom, I'm not sure how to tell you this... I know that you like him, but... Dr. Mercer is an inhuman eldrich abomination! - Well, yes, Buffy, I know. He is still a great conversationalist and a terrific kisser.
NEED MOAR! THE EPICNESS! IT CANNOT BE DENIED! I'm really liking this...and I like Mercer = Mayor Idea a LOT!
caps
A snippet taken from the recording of one of Alex Mercer's campaign speeches: "...And last but not least, I promise you I'll personally eat any threat to Sunnydale and it's peaceful inhabitants!" (loud applause follows)
Y'know, if future Mercer kills and consumes the Alex Mercer of the past he could get a good headstart on being a brother to Dana. It wouldn't stop the outbreak in Manhatten as far as my understanding of Buffyverse fate and time works at least, just the specifics of the outbreak as it seems to take direct mystical manipulation of fate itself to change things completely.
If he killed him, he'd cause one hell of a time paradox and would probably erase himself from existence, even if it would save his sister (and millions of people).
I wonder what tropes qualify for this story? And suggestions to have Alex run for Mayor sound good - It'd drive Buffy even further up the wall. Faith is gonna laugh her ass off, I'd bet. Especially if he can put his Ghilan strain Hunters to the test.
Other ways to annoy her are calling her Elizabeth, dating her mom or just hanging out with her mom. The Watchers council may just shit a brick if they pull that one test on Buffy now...Alex wouldn't stand for it . Then there are the new Slayers Faith and Kendra. "Don't bother trying to kill him , so far nothing has worked and he laughed when I threatend to try to use a nuke on him." "They taped my fight with the mayor?" "Yeah TV Station treated it as a joke.....and a Japanese movie company wants to talk to you about a role. Not to mention that Lucas, Spielberg and Cameron wish to talk."
Mayor Alex Mercer- "I love Sunnydale. It's where I keep all my stuff." I support eventual Mayor!Alex. The idea I get is that he would claim Sunnydale as his territory. The various vampires and demons would have to play nice and by the rules (no disappearances and definitely no children) or get smashed, kind of like the Baron's Peace from Girl Genius, a little. I like the Buffy/Mercer dynamic I see so far. Buffy has that automatic monster=kill mentality and Alex is 'even things Man was not meant to know have to pay the bills.' Alex could go without killing people, maybe. But he can't survive without his HBO...
Alex would probably hang out with Buffy's mother as a friend but not date or anything. He doesn't seem the type.
Roses are red lemons are sour open your legs and give me an hour - Alex Mercer says to Buffy's Mom, in front of her.
Yeah, I always saw Alex as a no-relationships kind of guy. Blacklight!Alex, anyway. He just doesn't work like that. I can't wait for MOAR.
Well, he was a little busy killing monsters and getting bit by anti-tank bullets. Besides, he needs a downtime with a woman or something. He's a virus after all, need to experience new things and what...not...
I think Buffy being all "Monster = Kill" is also fanon for the early seasons, but I can't remember well enough to be sure.
...no. He's a viral construct, not a human. He doesn't reproduce that way, he doesn't have those instincts. That's my headcanon, but I'm pretty sure many other people think this.
Yeah, Buffy's mom might try something, but he'd keep it in the Friend Zone. Not that Buffy would approve He has memories enough about the birds and the bees (and the birds & the birds, and the bees & the bees, considering how many people he nommed) but the drive should be lacking. If, IF, he gets involved with Buffy's mom it would be more of a "I like her and am comfortable with her" friendship than anything else. And it would piss off Buffy, of course :drevil:
