You will see the Tears of Time!- Mobile Suit Gundam story ideas

  1. Put down story ideas for any of the series in the many, many universes of the Gundam meta-series.

    Even SEED Destiny.

What if, instead of infiltrating Zeon, Char Aznable joined the Federation, or in a complete different series of events, it was him that jumped into the RX-78-2 Gundam during the attack on Side-7 instead of Amuro Ray?
  2. Hyakushiki Knight of Gold

A Gundam story told as a true space opera, taking place on a galactic scale with battlefront stretched across multiple planets.
Or, Gundam war story told Band of Brothers style from the viewpoint of soldiers fighting on the frontlines either in tanks or GMs, the Gundam would only make brief cameos, soldiers on both sides talking about it like it were a monster out of myth.

    14th Gundam Fight! READY? GO!!

Stargazer survived the movie events and was found in the wreck of a cruiser by Junk Guild. For a bit of crack spicing add a romantic line with Hachi.

UC crack oneshot. CCA Char reviews his combat record and comes to a peculiar conclusion.
He used quite a variety of Mobile Suits over the course of last 14 years, and quite a lot of them to fight Gundam. Most of those suits got trashed eventually. One never received any damage greater than dents and paint scratches though, despite regular clashes with the White Devil. He knew he was to fight Amuro and new Gundam soon. Sazabi was a fancy mech, with few surprise weapons, funnels and stuff, but no operation record to speak of. For this fight Char needed something that have proven it's effectiveness.
Federation pilots were quite surprised to find Neo Zeon forces being lead by iconic One Year War era mobile suit. Nad despite being outdated in every possible manner that red Zaku was still kicking their collective ass.
LONE WOLF 666 and Madork Gunna like this.

The original red three-times-faster Char Custom Zaku-II! :D

Gundam X prequel featuring a younger Jamil Neate?

Post-DESTINY series featuring the Queen of the World's descent into tyranny?
  5. This has been something I've always wanted to do. I would personally alternate chapters, so while you have chapters where Jamil is effectively going through the most depressing Gundam series since Victory before the Colony Drop, it would then be followed by a chapter of Jamil's struggles to survive in the early years of the Post-Apocalyptic Earth.
  6. Ford Prefect What is Project Zohar?

I remember ages back I discussed a story concept with ... someone that was about a OYW era Zeke experiment into autonomous mobile suits. Though after a while it seemed really clear it was verging right into the territory of THE BLUE DESTINY with more Macross Plus. It was sort of a confused 'love' story with a primitive autonomous Gouf 'falling for' the Zeke ace who was assigned to 'train' it. It's not an idea I'd be likely to pursue, but I thought it could have been a neat piece about personal relationships.

Anyway, I imagine this is slightly outside the scope of the thread and I'd hate to start a trend of silliness, but I feel like being a gigantic attention whore. I've honestly lost track of exactly how long I've been chiseling away at this concept, but it's well over two years now ... which is honestly pretty scary now that I think about it, Jesus. Anyway, a very few of you might remember just remember a story I started posting some time ago called Mobile Suit Sol Gundam. It was its own AU, set in the After Tranquility timeline (that is, it measures time from the first moon landing and I guess historically it diverges at that point). Since I posted those few awful chapters, the concept has further evolved and been polished. Admittedly due to combination of writer's block and very high standards I've only managed to write the prologue, and even that's not something I'm totally happy with. In any case, it's set in the year 1274AT, which is like the 33rd century or something. After all these centuries, humanity has moved out into the greater solar system and developed civilisations and nations elsewhere: Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn are the big players, with the actual planet Earth being an old rock that was colony dropped into irrelevance and the formerly prestigious orbital nations not able to keep up. Over centuries, what exists now as 'humanity' has essentially gone extinct, replaced by outwardly familiar but physiologically distinct and emotionally maladjusted successors. Warfare is the domain of cutting edge cyborgs known as Arahans - the preferred and most powerful weapons that they possess are the MAGNIFICENT GIANT GOD KNOWN AS GIGANTIS ultimate all-purpose transcendent humanoid decisive battle weapons called 'Mobile Suits' (duh).

The actual story follows a pair of civilians after they get tangled up with - and employed by - a group of mercenaries operating out of a cruiser called the Invictus. In the past, this group was literally the best in the business, but since the death of their MS squadron's leader, Aspect Beowulf Fudo, their stars have fallen somewhat. While they're still recognised as being top level aces in their own right, the remaining four pilots don't even begin to compare to Fudo, a pilot so skilled he was said to be The Man With No Enemies, as no one could stand against him. You know, until he died.

The Invictus is home to the local Gundam, the CRX-88 Maitreya. The prototype in a mysterious project conceived by the Akkadian Convocracy, the Maitreya was eventually stolen by its test pilot, the prodigy known as, among other things, the Lion of Ishtar - Nephythys Kafka. In a bit of self-referential silliness, it's called the Gundam because it more or less resembles something out her favourite TV show from her childhood. She even has a toy Haro, though by necessity I've shifted the production of Mobile Suit Gundam by about a thousand years. In any case, she is joined by highly celebrated Martian war hero Montauk Ares the unstoppable Bishamon, also called the Butcher of Tharsis, spec ops space police sniping-and-funnels expert LOCKON STRATOS Ysrael Samsa and a crippled experimental pilot with multiple constructed personalities from Uranus called Bear Fury. They wreck shit in giant robots.

The actual main character, however, isn't a pilot. He fits the teenager archetype required by Gundam, but is actually a logistics officer, with logistics being used here in a very broad way. Before being hired, Freeman Ayato was, along with his friend Piety Carnelli, a criminal who specialised in illegal transporting goods. His special skill is lying as well as sleeping with people, and his role tends to involve setting things up so the ship makes the maximum amount of money while still looking good in the process. That said, watching Cowboy Bebop recently convinced me that the heroes should be perpetually poor, so inevitably something will go wrong and they never seem to get all the money. At least, on page.

The story itself follows the Invictus around as it goes from job to job, each job consisting of its own arc. Most jobs tend to involve or dredge up the pasts of various characters on the Invictus, such as Montauk Ares having to confront his popular image as the perfect mass murderer, or Kafka encountering former subordinates who love her and hate her in equal measure. Overall, however, there is a plot involving the Neu, autonomous self replicating weapons used in the War of the Sun, who now lurk out beyond the Oort Cloud, as well the CRX-108 Vairocana piloted by that hot asshole. Not only is it the final entry in the same project that produced the Maitreya, it was responsible for the death of Beowulf Fudo.

    Dear Sir or Madam.

To which god shall I sacrifice my bank account, three chickens, one cow and firstborn to ensure that this project sees the light of day?

I got a Gundam Fanfic In process Story debate universe for you. It's called Second Sphere. And I'm not going to link it. Also, Screwball's Bad Neighbors.
  9. Stormwind Yuusha Destron

A bit of metafiction/RL crossover idea.
There is a lot of CE and AD gundam fiction. There is metric crapton and a half of AC fics. And than there is surprisingly little UC stories onFFN, despite almost every major installment of the timeline being released in US and even shown on TV multiple times.

So, why is it unpopular fanfic-wise? Well, the truth is - it IS popular, but many of the stories are never released to public. Because Bright Slap tends to ether depower a Mary Sue to be shot down in next fight or reveals her nature to herself driving her to suicide. Zeon aligned Sues on the other hand tend to suffer lethal accidents, usually involving weapons loaded with live ammo or mobile suits. Cause of that is unknown, but is was specifically found out that Char has nothing to do with it.

To Captain Newtype: Char in the Federation AU? See manga (Can't remember title, look it up in the Gundam Wiki). It was done as a oneshot.
To Hyakushiki: Band of Brothers as Gundam from the grunt's POV is essentially what MS-08 Team is. Excellent series by the way.
Space Opera? Not Gundam, true, but there are plenty of Space Opera Mechas already. Vandread comes to mind. Macross and Robotech in the later generations. Go Nagai's Starfleet (also known as X-bomber, another excellent series), etc., etc.

Edit: Ah, it was a doujin. Still, Char in the Federation has been done. And Char in a Gundam? Zechs did that, he was the Char of his timeline. So did Rau.
  13. I will also sacrifice what is in his bank account!
  14. Nitramy Umbrella That Smites Evil

I'd like a Double Zeta divergent where Haman lives and goes to Jupiter with DAT JEW DOUGH.
  15. Hyakushiki Knight of Gold

8th MS Team was good, but that was squad of grunts fighting with Gundam suits, I was thinking more like MS Igloo where we can see the war from the point of view of soldiers fighting with weapons other than MS, at least other than Gundams or at least those MS variations we see in lineart but never on screen. Something that shows parts of the war we don't normally see, like the Zeon invasion of Earth, or the events leading up to Operation British and the immediate aftermath. Gundam could lend itself well to space opera, the franchise always felt a bit limited with the same formula of humans build space colonies in Earth orbit, colonies rebel start a war with Earth, but you can only tell so many stories within that premise, which is probably why the franchise began moving laterally into AU rather than moving the timeline forward, away from Earth which would expand the universe in which you can tell stories in.

Lagrange 5. At the battle of Solomon, the Federation unveield thier newest weapon as the Solar Ray system. A weapon upon which the very light of the sun is reflected via panoramic mirror upon a single point.

The Big Zam was the first Mobile Armor equipped with a I-Field defense system. It was tested and worked well enough when small beams were fired upon it. An attack of this level however...the Earth federation had no way to forsee the unknown amplification effect thier attack would have upon the field of minovsky particles.

The Big Zam was completely destroyed..but not before it's field had expanded to engulf a 50 mile sphere.

Imagine the suprise of the Plants at Lagrange 5, a week after the beggining of the Bloody Valentine War, when Solomon appears but a mere 500 kilometers away....and a battle still very much raging.
  17. Stormwind Yuusha Destron

Let me guess. The main point of this fic will be Athurn, Kira and Shinn visiting bridge of the White Base?
  18. Isn't '50 miles' a bit of a small range for a space battle? Considering the size and speed of things like Solomon, the Big Zam or the Federation fleet, wouldn't most of the capital ships (which had been mostly far away from Solomon due to the use of the Solar Ray and using their huge army of grunt suits to swarm Solomon.
  19. GundamChief Newtype Cybernetic Super Soldier

Hell no. By itself Seed is an okay version of Gundam. But I'll always be a UC fan.

This is more of the One Year war suddenly making the Valentine war look like nothing and UC militaries kicking ass.

Well considering the whole Sphere thing came from the Big Zam rather then a ship, I figured 50 miles would make sense.

True, most of the E.F.S.F. ships were far away from the asteroid, but not all of them were far. With all of the minovsky interference a portion of the ships had to get close. That's why the Zam was quickly able to find ships to blow up rather then travel the whole distance.

Plus, at that point of the battle, Zeon was on the retreat and were leaving. some were going to thier last line of defense, and some (Deleze Fleet) left for the belt.

So it was only a small matter of the Federation to eventually take Solomon. With the plants suddenly in play, and thier mobile suits looking so much like Zakus...I figured it was only a small matter of creating a spark or two.
  20. Liam-don Urge to smack an Ikari rising!

    Go through? It's just light.;)

That's unlikely as there's nearly a year between the start of the war and the beginning of SEED.
  21. tsukino_kage Enraged and Suicidal

Actually, the MS08 Team used substandard parts and castoff for those Gundams, so they were more like elite grunts than the Super Prototype, and none of them were Newtypes. Those guys are just grunts lucky enough to get a better unit than most, and there were other teams that got a similar machine, though they were still rarer than the GM at that point.

Yeah, Igloo, maybe... Astray could have been this, but they did something else.

Actually, I don't see why too many people whine about SEED and DESTINY so much, I liked it. Even the part with Shinn derailing and Dulindal's insane scheme. It's not like he's the only villian in both fiction and real life to use a similar plot of determinism by some factor (Khan from Star Trek, or Hitler in real life), and Shinn was like the deconstruction of Hot Blooded angry protagonsits from every robot show ever, especially Kamille Bidan. Sure Kira was too overpowered, but it wasn't like he was always like that and he had some fights he had to work for (Wattfeld, Rau, even Shinn gave him a hard fight the first time, but it's justifiable that the original cast was better in the sequel since they literally were aces in the beginning who survived hell and kept getting better, while the new guys had no experience in the beginning)

UC Gundam, I find too depressing really. This was eventually deconstructed by Tomino himself with Turn A and by others in Gundam X, If anything, it's G Gundam that I have trouble watching, the first 20 eps where completely uninteresting to me and it only got good nearer the end. But if it was anyone else less patient, they would have lost the audience.
  22. My only real issue with 'Destiny' is that Shinn was kinda shafted as a character. I liked Shinn in the early episodes, but as the show progressed, even in the early episodes, it was clear to me that Shinn was kinda there to pilot the Impulse while Athrun and Kira were there to actually get involved with the story. All issues I may or may not have with Zeta-Gundam, Amuro's supporting role and his mini-character arc, or indeed Char's role in the show never threatened to overshadow anything that Kamile experienced. Even when Char is having to deal with his own past, his ideology and the fact that his screwing up Haman Khan might have made things worse, Kamile's part of the main story. That's what I don't like about Destiny, I'm not saying that Kira and Athrun could not have had central character arcs in the storyline, but it felt that they were doing it to the detriment of Shinn, who was advertised and promoted to be the lead of the show.

That... is actually quite questionable. Main advantage of UC suits over CE ones is their powerpalnt, which is, despite fancy particles, is still a nuclear reactor fusion and thus affected by N-Jammer.

Another question entirely - would that nuclear fusion reaction even produce Minovsky particle in CE universe? Because if not - everything UC goes BOOM due to reactor containment breaches.
  24. Liam-don Urge to smack an Ikari rising!

    Turn A a deconstruction?

Did you miss how well Zaku or Kapool were potrayed in the show, or how big a deal the past series are in it? Turn A doesn't knock on its predecessors, it embraces them and all and celebrates them with an unabashed happy ending. It takes all the atrocities and pointless wars that happened in them, put them all together and proudly declares that even such a bloody past can be overcome to find real lasting peace.

And the reason people don't like CE is because it's a rehash of the original with half the content removed and replaced by bling and general flashyness. Instead of two sides with their good and bad elements fighting it out, you get the "evil" side , the"obviously evil" side and the "GOOD ^__^"side. You can recognize the last one easily because it's the one that strikes poses for the camera and win battles a hundred to one without a scratch.

And hell, you say CE is less depressing but UC never devolved to the point where both sides tried to commit genocide. It just hides it under a thin layer of pink sugar.

    N-Jammer works on nuclear fission.
*shrug* If the nuclear fusion works at all, I don't see why their would't be minovsky particles.
