January 3 - January 10, UC 0079 aka One Week War. First week of OYW that halved both Earth and Colony population via massed use of WMD up to and including nuclear, biochemical and dropping a colony, latter resulted in 500 kilometer wide crater where Sydney was.

    EDIT
Oh, and entire premise of Char's Counterattack - make Earth uninhabitable.

    EDIT2
Oh, and also Jovian Empire, same deal, only Earth Shattering Kaboom is even more preferable.
  2. Liam-don Urge to smack an Ikari rising!

And they all said "Holy shit!" and backed out on their own. "Kill all Natural/Coordinators" is the rallying cry of nearly everyone in CE.

    Well, except Gihren.
  3. Tragically, the Zeon were aiming for New Jersey.

Speaking of the early days of the OYW, that was a shorter story idea I've always had in my head.

    'Tilting at Windmills'

Where Federation soldiers on Earth try again and again, using their own cunning, trickery and praying to Gods they don't believe in, trying to find ways to properly combat Zeon MS. David vs. Goliath at the 18 meter scale.
  4. Liam-don Urge to smack an Ikari rising!

Still not "kill everyone that's not on my side" and still not the mentality of both sides of the conflict. CE got out of it by creating a third "miracle" faction that kicked the ass of everybody else with three ships and tens suits.

... And that's a far as I'll revisit my CE rage. That topic is freaking old.
  5. tsukino_kage Enraged and Suicidal

Turn A was a deconstruction of Gundam in the sense that it averts a tragic end while being set in the far, far future of what seems to be the UC.
  6. Fivemarks My Ship is Fight

    That isn't a deconstruction.
  7. Gafgar Sir Not Appearing On This Forum

Once upon a time I was working on a UC Gundam/Star Wars fic that involved a band of Zeon remnants finding the Ebon Hawk crashed and abandoned on Pluto, reverse engineering it's drive systems, and winding up invading the Star Wars galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. Wound up abandoning the idea after I came to loathe Star Wars though.

As for other ideas, perhaps a crackfic involving an extended series of various anime characters trying to keep Char the hell away from their underage friends/teammates/sisters/daughters?

    SEED Alt-Verse

The Bloody Valentine Massacre, which killed a little less than a quarter million people, is used by ZAFT and the PLANTS to justify just about everything that they do throughout the war. To me this is the height of hypocrisy as the N-Jammer drop is almost guaranteed to have killed even more civilians than the destruction of Junius 7.

So, using this as a base rewrite the events of Gundam SEED where ZAFT and the PLANTS, while not evil, are quite clearly in the wrong and the war's goal is the forcible occupation of the PLANTS with Blue Cosmos being a minor (at this point) political faction that's growing in strength. The use of N-Jammer's and the public position of the PLANTS on their actions could also be why the Orb government looks the other way when Morgenroete undertakes the development of the G-Weapons for the Earth Alliance.

Andrew Waltfeld stays a sympathetic character and expresses a bit of discontent with the public policies of his home, but is also a loyal soldier and as such doesn't really know what to do. His last charge at Kira in the desert instead of being stubborn pride is actually an attempt to die an honorable death so he doesn't have to choose between betraying his oaths and continuing to serve a government he's more and more uncomfortable with.

Cascade the changes as well - Kira's battle with Athrun after they leave Orb either doesn't happen or has different results. JOSH-A also doesn't happen, or if it does the Cyclops system really is used as a last resort and a retreat order is given just before the countdown is activated.

Similarly the Battle of Orb never happens. Patrick Zala's madness though does occur and the creation of N-Jammer cancelers and the construction of GENESIS (especially since the latter was, according to the fluff, originally designed as a nuclear propulsion engine to move large amounts of people and materials to Mars - possibly as an escape route for the PLANTS?). The defection of the Clyne Faction (though much smaller this time around) similarly occurs though they only manage to bring information, the Eternal, Justice, & Freedom all remain in the custody of the PLANTS.

The Clyne Faction's information does have the effect of convincing Orb to ally itself with the Earth Alliance for a pre-emptive strike at GENESIS. Also, while Blue Cosmos is gaining popular support the Earth Alliance does not support the idea of genocide against the coordinators so even if (and that's a large if) nuclear weapons are once again a viable weapon for the Earth Alliance the PLANTS are never directly attacked by the main force - there might be a splinter faction that goes AWOL in the middle of battle to try and target the PLANTS, and if that does occur they should be taken out by Alliance forces as well as ZAFT forces, though some damage should be taken by the colonies if that route is chosen.

Ultimately SEED ends with the PLANTS surrendering after GENESIS is used like in the series only this time they are occupied by the Earth Alliance.

    Alternate SEED-AU idea.

The back story fluff for the original Gundam SEED series indicates that the whole mess started not so much as a Coordinators vs. Naturals bit, but a fight over independence. So, rewrite SEED to focus more fully on that aspect - the Coordinators vs. Naturals bit is relegated to a sub-plot that never really goes beyond the whole confusion/racial traitor bit that stems from Kira fighting for the Earth Alliance and instead the driving force behind the war is that the PLANTS want freedom and/or full autonomy and the earth-based sponsor nations don't want to allow them that freedom or autonomy.

Someone once said that nearly every Scifi show will have a mirror verse if it goes on long enough. Gundam is long enough. What would a mirror of the UC be like?

Zeon instead of being Space Nazis, Char and his dad tried to create a Space Empire, and the Zabis stage a coup to make a real Democracy? Char was allowed to live because he was so young, a mistake for the Zabis since he's out to kill them all and re-establish his father's dream of conquest.
The Earth Federation is in the original a Democracy where they slowly devolved to incompetence and imperialism, started as an Evil Empire of Oppression that slowly changed to a truly enlightened democracy as it's leaders became better?
Amuro is not a whiz kid with a chip on his shoulder. He's an idiot savant with a loving family that's totally clueless to anything but piloting.
Sela is not bitter but is actually happy?

Bright is a layabout instead of the old worrywart but competent officer.

And highly experiences pilots, and advanced beam weapons capable of blowing up ships, and tactical use of Minovsky particles in combat as a form of jamming of targeting systems of all forms (the whole reason mobile suits were even made as a viable weapon system) and yes...the power plants for the suits.

Also. An N-Jammer is a device which suppresses nuclear fission reactions by blocking the movement of free neutrons. M-Particles are capable of being charge negatively or positively so it wouldn't work on them, plus the Power Plants of U.C. mobile suits are Fusion Engines which don't rely on neutron emissions.

That's a technicality depending entirely upon the author as there's no way to know if the C.E. universe has the M-particle or not.

Certainly a poor way to say "This story doesn't work".

I point to the one year war for Zeon where they eventually were going to go on a genocidal campaign of purity via Gihren. A man who thought being compared to Hitler was a compliment.

For the Earth Federation I point to Gundam Zeta with the Titans, a military force with no problem gassing the entire population of a colony simply because they had a peaceful protest for independence, and would do so again on a large scale were the colonies not so completely under thier thumb.

First hour of the war actually. Zeon had all of thier forces placed in thier positions of attack prior to the declaration of war. Within 3 seconds of the declaration being made, they attacked with nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. Within the first hour over five billion people were killed.

Bloody Valentine Massacre - 243,721 Killed

One Week War - 5,500,000,000+ Killed

One of many reasons I think C.E. is full of wimps.

Because he thought Earth needed to start over anew without human beings and most importantly because he still loved Lah Lah.....*Bonks Char on the head with a 10 lbs hammer*

Trying to watch V-Gundam...hard to find the time.

No. They didn't back down because they were all "Holy Shit, This is Bad!". Originally they were in Antarctica because the Earth Federation was signing terms of Surrender. They had lost over 80% of thier military forces and they had lost General Revel.

When General Revel escaped and told the E.F. how desperate the situation was for Zeon and that they could win if they simply held them off until they could rebuild thier forces, it gave the E.F. a moral boost and they said "We won't surrender".

So instead they the calmer heads hashed out the Antarctic treaty as rules of war so the hotter heads don't end up just blowing the hell out of everything because both sides were more then willing to do so.

Jovian* Jupiter Empire is primarily from the Crossbone Gundam manga, not Victory (that one is the Zanscare Empire).

Otherwise, very concise (and accurate) set of replies.

And hilariously, Judau (no, I won't use that ridiculous joke spelling that others here have used) is STILL around and kicking ass by the UC 0150s.

Wonder if its the same case for Roux and/or Leina?

    * - Silly me (and Stormwind). Jovian Empire is from Martian Successor Nadesico.

*doh* Derp. Right. Got the times mixed up.

Masked Man was a total Genocidal maniac.
  13. Stormwind Yuusha Destron

    @GundamChief
What I was saying - that while yes, late OYW UC has quiite a technical advantage over pre-series CE, it won't be as crubstompy as your initial post makes me think you want to write it. Because for instance CE tech had remote weapon down by that time - see Moebius Zero - and it's own plethora of ace pilots - Mwu, Andy, Ed the Ripper, Barry Ho and Gai Murakumo off the top of my head.

    @NeoSeether
    I can see that.
Bunch of Zanscare grunts have their asses handed to them by 60+ year old ZZ Gundam, which at that point is barely recognizable due to arm replaced by some industrial type claw, a peg leg, faded paint job and many subpar armor patchups
"Who the hell is this guy?!"
"My name is Gray Stork and all of you are small time."
  14. synx Lord of Lag

I'm pretty sure N-Jammers only work on fission...
  15. GundamChief Newtype Cybernetic Super Soldier

    *Nods*

    Understood.

I'm not aiming for a curbstomp because, although the plants will be stomped with the first contact fights from Solomon appearing, this was more of a butterflying story to me. Zeon and E.F.S.F. both are quite different from Zaft and the E.F. of this world at the present time while also being very alike.

So I could see Zeon, not at first but in long term, being divided between pure Zeonists and those who want to carry over to Zaft.

Same for the E.F. forces with this worlds E.F. but also with Zaft.

Then a third faction of those from both Zeon and E.F. who want to stay pure to thier universe rather then simply accept being in this new one.

....the problem is that I have too many ideas on how this could go and it's a large batch of eggs.

If Solomon appeared at a different L-point the situation most certainly change from what I had given initially.

As for the mobius aces...over shadowed by Zeon aces such as Gato - the nightmare of Solomon, The White Wolf, Johnney Riden - the Crimson lightning...although I'm not sure he was there or not, and the Federations own aces, including Amuro who was already a demon in the Gundam at that point.
  16. Liam-don Urge to smack an Ikari rising!

A week into the BV war means they appear right when the battle of Yggdrasil begins, so most of ZAFT forces are at L1, engaged in heavy battle against OMNI.

That said it's also a week after the Bloody Valentine incident so I'm pretty sure ZAFT will be pretty aggressive in regard to an armed force materializing in their backyard. After the spanking they just received the Zeon would be exhausted, demoralized, disorganized and disoriented especially since they don't have a leader to rally around and the world around them just changed completely; pretty much easy picking. At this point it would be surrender or death for them.

The Feddies would fare better since they're riding GM instead of Zaku. They also just acquired a base for their forces to rest into and their numbers should be considerably higher, probably big enough to give ZAFT pause. Actually probably big enough to conquer Plant if they wanted to, but they have no reason to do that.

As for aces, Gato and Ridden were at Solomon but Matsunaga and Char weren't. On the Feddies' side, there's Jack Bayard, the 0083 team and obviously Amuro Ray. Sleggar is still alive too for what it's worth.
  17. GundamChief Newtype Cybernetic Super Soldier

For most Zeons Surrender would be a prefferable but last resort for a situation they are completely lost on...which this case very well is. The hard liners would prefer death.

Gat and Ridden were both hardliners but the difference between Gato and Ridden was that Gato was a Zealot who was emotionally driven on his beliefs. Ridden was a stratagist who could see the numbers and overall situation and was a cool customer.

Gato might just kill himself..but then his pride might prevent that. Ridden however would fight to keep Zeon alive...even if it meant surrendering.

A base which though damaged was still very able to defend itself and still had alot of ships around it to protect it from enemy attack and contains enough personnel to run it.

So the plants would be hard pressed to actually succeed in taking it, esspecially with most of thier forces elsewhere.

...that's not to say they couldn't do it...but I have doubts.

This...and that's the name. Forgot it was Matsunaga.

Char: No All of You are copying Me!
  22. Ford Prefect What is Project Zohar?

I'll be honest, I think any sort of intra-franchise crossover which exists purely to beat on SEED is pretty bankrupt, and I think SEED is extraordinarily atrocious.

Also honestly, I think a crossover between UC Gundam and Battletech could have legs if done properly. I'd even write one ... if I didn't really hate Battletech. After some consideration, I imagine that the best way to do it would be to somehow shift some kindo f interesting UC dream team into the Battletech universe and get them caught up in something exciting. Also by default it would pretty much require Paptimus.
  23. Just an idea I had running around my head:

Gundam LIFESAVER (working title, of course).

Instead of 'Gundam 'Band of Brothers'', how about 'Gundam M*A*S*H'?

The life, times, perils and whatnot of a battlefield recovery and medical unit and their support crew within one of the Gundam timelines (well, I was thinking CE, but maybe the UC might be best).

The 'super-prototype mecha' that the unit is fit with is not made for outright combat, but to save pilots that fell in the middle of the battlefield (augmented mobility, space for two (that is, the pilot and a medic) plus the fallen pilot, 'International Red Cross' IFF code (that of course will be ignored by the more blood-thirsty pilots, but not the most honorable ones), weapons that can cut through MS armor which are there to get injured pilots out, etc).

With constantly-shifting politics, people that are in the field to kill all enemies (and thus will shoot anybody in the way), the crew falling apart to pressure (and doing anything possible to keep up morale), people from both sides of the war being treated upon (and thus the issues that 'it's MY patient!' 'It's a stinking Coordinator/Newtype! You should let him die/exchange treatment for information/etc!')...

the other idea I had was rather vague-only that Rusty MacKenzie (1st fragged RedCoat in SEED) didn't die. And then it segued into Antoine Fuqua's 'Shooter' with Rusty (a Coordinator retired ZAFT Red Coat) standing for Bob Lee Swagger (well, he *was* the top shaprshooter in the Le Creuse Team (or so the supplementary material says))...
  24. GundamChief Newtype Cybernetic Super Soldier

Not that I disagree, but I'll point out that I already said that the point of the story wasn't so much to beat on Seed as much as to change the rules.
  25. Ford Prefect What is Project Zohar?

    I'd buy it, just saying.
