Chapter 1
-x-x-x-

I saw Eddard Stark for the first time when he passed through the great doors of carved weirwood that protected the throne room of the Seven Kingdoms, the doors so perfectly balanced that he could push their near thousand pound weight - each - with but a single hand.

He took in the scene even as his right hand reached over his shoulder to draw his greatsword, Ice. It was a thousand feet from the great doors to the base of the dais, a thousand feet across polished obsidian flag stones mortared with silver, and inset in each stone was the sigil - done in gold - of a noble house of Westeros that had sworn fealty to the Iron Throne. Two hundred feet above our heads, and supported by a dozen great pillars of weirwood carved to look like the trees, was a mirrored ceiling inset with a three headed dragon in flight - done in dragon bone. Through clever use of mirrors the ceiling reflected the sky outside, illuminating the room.

As the Lord Paramount of the North approached, I wondered what he thought about the three massive dragon skulls that surrounded the throne. One rested directly behind the Iron Throne, the skull of Balerion, while to either side rested two somewhat smaller dragon skulls. Perhaps of more immediate importance, however, was his opinion of the two corpses that rested on the floor before the dais.

He was a dozen feet from the bottom when I chose to speak my first words since finding myself awakening in this new body with my ass seated on a most uncomfortable throne and a kings corpse at my feet. "Welcome to King's Landing Lord Stark."

"So this is the honor of a Lannister Kingsguard? You swore your life, before gods and man, to protect him and yet you killed him at your fathers order. And now you sit on a throne that you have no claim to, regardless of whatever your father may desire." the young man spat out.

I gave a bitter chuckle "Aye, I swore my oath and I kept it even when that meant standing outside the door as Aery's raped and beat his wife. I kept it when it meant burning innocents to death. Unfortunately for your desire to avenge your family, if fortunately for your continued survival, I could not keep it when he ordered Rossart to light the thousands of casks of Wildfire secreted throughout the city. I may had been willing to die for a mad king who deserved no fealty or allegiance, I may even have been willing to soil my own hands with sins beyond count in the name of the oath I swore but I was not willing to stand by and watch as a mad man turned a city with a half million innocent souls within its walls into a funeral pyre.

"Tell me Honorable Lord Stark, should I have kept my oath or should I have soiled my honor to stop that atrocity?"

The mans eyes went wide at my challenge before he sighed slightly, his hand relaxing its death grip on Ice's pommel, "Some things trump even honor, but that doesn't explain why you are still seated on the throne."

I shrugged slightly at that "I needed a place to rest my ass, figured I would try the most uncomfortable chair ever devised." I rose from the throne then, "Thankfully, I will have only been its victim for a handful of minutes. Will it be Robert it tears to shreds next, or perhaps you?"

He clenched his blades pommel harder, "Robert Baratheon will be the next king."

I gave a little smile "And so the uncrowned king of the North puts the Dragon's crown onto a stag. I suppose we must hope he is up to the task."

Before he could say anything more men rushed in, these wearing tabbards of red and gold and with live steel in hand. "Hold!" I shot out before facing Ned again, "I believe we have a palace to secure for its new king, Lord Stark."

"That we do, Kingslayer." Ned replied, causing me to smile slightly "I'll wear it with honor."

Turning to the Lannister soldiers I said "Sergeant, take two of your men and go with Lord Stark. Tell any Lannister men you come across that they will obey his orders as if they were my own, and that any who don't will be lucky if I just send them to the Wall. The rest of you, with me."

With a final nod to Ned, I lead my contingent of guards out of the room. With the city, and palace, in chaos thanks to the sack this was the perfect opportunity to make some objects disappear, and as one of the Kingsguard I knew more of the Red Keep's secrets than perhaps anyone else still living.

I led my six men through the palace's walls, and past a dozen fights, until we emerged in a small hallway deep underground. At the other end of the hall was a door of castle forged steel with a combination lock built into it.

"Where are we?" one of the men muttered.

"The Royal Vault, where the Targaryens kept their true treasures." I replied as I started spinning the dial to input the combination. Once I was done, the door opened onto a chamber perhaps twenty square feet in size.

The men entered eagerly, looking around, and then one of them spoke "Where's the gold then?"

I laughed slightly "In the treasury vaults, where else? Nothing so base as mere gold would ever have been considered worthy of being housed in this room." While true enough, the room did house some spectacular jewels.

"Each of you can have a piece of jewelry to keep for yourselves, more if I run out of room in the chests." I said before dragging one of the ornate chests of carved dragon bone from one wall over to the smallish bookcase set against the left wall. Sitting in pride of place was a book bound in metal with the three headed dragon carved into its cover, but while that book was far and away the most valuable - being made of Valyrian steel and having come from Old Valyria with the Targaryens -, the others weren't trash.

Joining the books in the chests went the three petrified dragons eggs that had been sitting on a pedestal against the rooms back wall, and the dozen Valyrian steel daggers in the weapons case. An ornate cyvasse set made from gem encrusted dragons bone was also included, as were a half dozen vials also of dragon bone that I knew contained dragons blood.

Once the room was packed up I took the rooms four light sources, each dragon bone carved into a clawed hand and gripping a ruby red stone that gave off light like the sun and yet produced no heat, from the walls and packed them in as well before locking the dragonbone chests with their dragon bone keys and sliding them through a Valyrian steel necklace chain that I had grabbed for myself.

"Pick them up." I instructed the men, indicating the chests, before leading the way back into the secret passages. In time we emerged at the royal docks.

A half dozen vessels were docked there, one of which was flying the Lion of Casterly Rock. Fortunately it wasn't one of the three that were currently on fire. A glance over the area showed almost a hundred corpses but the survives looked to be Lannister men, good.

I approached one, my squad still carrying the three chests I had taken between them. "Whose in charge here, solider?" I barked out.

"My Lord! Uh, that would be Ser Cyril, I think he's on the Golden Claw at the moment." the solider stuttered out.

I waved a hand, "Well then lead the way. I have business with him."

My new found memories, or perhaps that would be my old memories depending on whether I was Jaime Lannister with some extra memories added or Mikale Raith transmigrated into Jaime Lannister's body, told me that Ser Cyril was a cousin. Second son of the Lannisport Lannisters, decent with a blade and quite loyal.

As we approached the ship, 'someone must have run ahead to inform Ser Cyril of my presence', a man in full plate appeared at the top of the gangplank "Ser Jaime, how can I serve?" he asked, bowing slightly.

I indicated my six men and their chests. "Take these six on board and then go anchor in the bay. Don't go anywhere without orders, in person, from myself or my father."

The knight seemed a bit dubious but chose to keep his questions too himself "Of course Ser Jaime." he said with a nod of acceptance.

Turning to the six men I said "Put the chests in the captains quarters and I expect two of you on guard at the door at all times, if anything should disappear then everyone of you", I glanced at Ser Cyril "And the entire ships company will loose their heads." Facing the six men with the chests I continued "The same fate awaits you if a word of what you saw since leaving the throne room should ever pass your lips. No rumors over drinks or around the campfire, no hints dropped to a pretty women to impress her, not even any idle chatter among yourselves. House Lannister always has need for trustworthy men, and if you prove yourself such then the rewards will be great indeed. Understood?"

The six men saluted, clenched fists over hearts, "As you say my lord."

I turned to the knight "And you Ser Cyril?"

He gave a nod "Understood Ser Jaime. I'll have the Claw out in the bay within thirty minutes."

"Good, now I need to get back to the throne room." I said before giving the men a nod and heading back towards the throne room through the regular passages this time. I had to make it look like I had been fighting after all, otherwise there would be more questions than I cared for.

When I entered it was to find a giant of a man standing before the Throne, Robert Baratheon supplied my memories, my father, Ned Stark, Jon Arryn, a dozen guardsmen, and three bodies wrapped in crimson cloaks lying on the floor before them all.

'joy.' I thought as the four men turned to face me upon my entrance.

So yeah, an SI into Jaime Lannister as off a minute or two after he kills Aerys. Don't think I've ever actually seen and Jaime inserts and so I decided to write this upon concluding that doing my Cersei Lannister insert justice would violate this forums rules. This will be an AU book and show hybrid with the canon setting acting more as a guideline and starting point than anything else. Oh, and needless to say, the plot will diverge pretty significantly from canon.

and There actually is one or two jaime SI around on alternate history but they never managed to breach the first chapter barrier x)

Interesting fic, you'd really benefit from a beta to polish it though.
Anyone who wants to beta any chapter I post in any story and PM me the betaed chapter is more than free to do so. Assuming I like the edited chapter I will gladly replace the published chapter and give whomever did the editing/beta work credit.

That being said, my desire to go through and edit or rewrite my stories is generally quite low.

hance1986

Planning for the inevitable day of Man's downfall.
Well if Jaime wants to make some changes he will say he wants to be let go from the Kingsguard as staying would only glorify kingslaying. Aerys had to die and dismissing Jamie is the lightest punishment that can be handed down from the new King and everyone else who hated the Mad King.

The Humble One

It's a BEAR crying BEARLY tears
Love the description of the throne room as well as the secret treasure chamber. Feels very Valyrian with all the arrogance implied.
Another reason to avoid being Kingsguard is Cercei; depending whether its the one from the book or the show, her craziness levels may vary but she is still plenty Jaime crazy either way.

Chapter 2
-x-x-x-

"So Ned says you're the one who killed the Mad Dragon, eh?" said Robert by way of introduction.

"Aye, your grace. I prefer a King who doesn't think it a good idea to turn his capital into a Wildfire pyre in the hopes that it will cause him to be reborn as a dragon." I answered, walking up to join the others by the dais.

Robert shook his head in disgust "Mad, the lot of them. But I'm not King yet, Kingslayer."

I shook my head slightly in negation and gave a slightly chuckle "Not King? You are Lord Paramount of the Stormlands and the Vale, Riverlands, and North all rose their banners at your call to tear the dragons from their throne. And my father", I nodded to Tywin, "took Kings Landing for you, that is five of the Seven kingdoms already supporting your claim. The Tyrell fop has been sieging your brothers for the better part of a year with no success and you broke the Dornish armies at the Trident, both will bend the knee as soon as they see your emissary with an army at his back."

I glanced down at the three wrapped corpses and sighed "Although those will make the Dornish difficult."

Robert glared down and said "Bah! The only good dragon spawn are dead dragon spawn." and spit on the corpses.

'yeah, a politician he is not. would make a great general commanding the armies though. pity he is to be king'

Choosing not to comment, I merely shrugged.

Robert gave the bodies one more glare before shaking himself and saying "Kingslayer, do you know where my beloved Lyanna is?"

I gave a slight nod and glanced at Ned before turning back to Robert "Last I heard Rhaegar ordered her held in the Tower of Joy in Dorne. If that has changed since you slew Rhaegar at the Trident isn't known to me."

Robert gripped the massive warhammer leaning against his right leg hard and said "Right, I'm off them. Ned, lets go save your sister."

Jon gave a put upon sigh, "Robert, you can't go.", when the six foot eight giant of pure muscle whirled back around, the pure fury that had seen him tear down a dynasty plain on his face, and snarled out "WHAT DID YOU SAY?!" in a voice loud enough that it seemed the room should be shaking, I winced.

Jon Arryn just sighed slightly and held up a hand in pacification "Robert, you just seized the throne and Kings Landing is still burning. You can NOT leave right now, at the barest minimum you must wait until the city is fully secured. Let Ned rescue his sister and, given that Storm's End is on the way, raise the siege while he's at it."

Robert looked like he wanted nothing more than to crush Arryn with his hammer in that moment, but instead whirled around and said to Ned "Bring her back, and rescue my brothers while you are at it I suppose." before storming out of the throne room. A dozen of the men standing at the edges of the room, all in Baratheon colors, silently formed up around him and followed as he departed.

Ned gave us all a bare nod before he too left, taking the Northmen present with him as well.

Once the two had gone Jon pushed a hand through his thinning hair and said "Ser Jaime, you said something about Wildfire?"

I gave a nod "Aye, Aerys had the Alchemists making it constantly and its stored all over the city in jars and casks."

Both he and my father winced before the future Hand of the King said "Right, you're in charge of finding it all and securing it Ser Jaime. Take as many men as you need but I want it all accounted for before the week is out."

I gave a salute "As you command, Lord Hand."

He shook his head, "I'm not the Hand."

"Then get Robert to formerly name you Hand next time you see him, this city needs someone in charge to get things stabilized and the only real choices are the King, yourself, or my father. Seeing as the King seems disinclined to handle the details at the moment and my father commands the force that just sacked the city, that leaves only one realistic choice." I countered, keeping watch on Twin's reaction out of the corner of my eye. Unfortunately his poker face showed nothing.

"Perhaps, but Robert is the King and so I will remain only Lord Paramount of the Vale and Warden of the East until such time as he should choose to bestow another honor on me.", he rebuked before giving a nod to the both of us and leaving, the Valemen following.

With only Tywin and I left in the throne room I glanced down at the three corpses again before saying "They were a mistake, father."

"Their deaths were necessary for Robert to sit a secure throne, and I needed to offer him something to prove that we weren't loyal to the dragons. Anything but dragon blood would have kept us suspect in his eyes, I served as Aery's Hand for twenty years. How was I to predict that you would take his head?" the older man replied.

"Perhaps, but it's going to cost us. You just earned the implacable hatred of Dorne and I doubt that Ned Stark was any too pleased. You also signed our House's death warrant should the Targaryens ever retake the throne." I said quietly but firmly.

Tywin made a slight throwing away gesture "Dorne may be difficult to conquer but they aren't any threat to us outside their lands, and Ned Stark won't act against us without Robert's support."

"Oh, and what reason does Robert have to support us against the wishes of his soon to be goodbrother? Robert already considers Ned to be his brother, and with Lyanna as his Queen the North's influence will be heavy in the Baratheon's court. Jon Arryn won't gainsay his two former wards, and where Arryn and Stark goes so too goes the Riverlands. Once the Tyrell's bend the knee, they too would be eager to oppose us should the opportunity arise. We can count none of the great houses as our true allies, now isn't the time to take risks." I countered.

Tywin smiled then "It seems the Kingsguard was at least good for something, you finally started learning how to understand the game."

I gave a shrug, choosing not to comment, and Tywin continued to speak "You still need practice though. We don't know if the Stark girl is in any fit state to be Queen, and Ned Stark is going to return to his frozen wasteland in short order. Once he does, I doubt he will be all that inclined to play southern games. No, we will only have need to fear his actions if we should rise in rebellion to the Iron Throne or strike at his family."

He made a throwing away gesture "Arryn? The man tries to play but he has always been second rate. With him as Hand and Robert as King, I have little doubt that I will be able to secure Lannister influence at court, and with that influence it should be easy to encourage distrust of the Tyrells. Mace has been feasting in full view of Storms End's parapets as he starves our new King's two brothers, it's hard to imagine anything more likely to cause implacable hatred to form in a man."

I gave a nod of acknowledgement, if not one of agreement, before saying "As you say father, but I have a city to scour for wildfire and you should probably get our army to halt the looting and burning before they accidentally light that pyre with us still inside."

He gave his own nod "We'll talk later about freeing you from the Kingsguard."

I gave a bitter chuckle at that "I killed the last King, somehow I doubt I will have any issue getting out from under that vow.", I said before gathering up some of the Lannister men and heading out to gather more. I had a guild of pyro's to round up and a city to clear of magical napalm, this was going to be a long night.

Yah, another chapter. Conversation heavy but what do you really expect, GoT is a politics heavy setting and politics means lots of talking. Hope I got the other characters voices right.

So long as you dont stick your dick in the crazy that is cercei everything will be fine. Or at least better than canon. Because without jaime there is no joffre. And everything is better without joffre. Or at least without joffre being the one controlling his meatpuppet.

Also is there a reason why joffre wasnt fostered with anyone in canon? Was it a prince thing, or a cercei is crazy thing?

Cersei being crazy irrc. Well that and about the only places he really could be fostered would be with Stannis, Ned, or Twin.

It would be very interesting if lyanna ended up surviving the birth. I have no idea how it would change things, but it would be interesting regardless.

My money is on Cersei being Cersei.

Although, now considering the choices they had…

There is a small chance since Ned is departing a little earlier, but Jaime couldn't save the children so...

The question is of the available candidates who does Tywin decide to marry Jamie off too.

The Tully daughters are taken at this point, Ashara Dayne is "spoiled" or about to commit suicide and dornish besides, someone from the Westerlands? or perhaps Janna Tyrell depending on when she married that Fossoway?

A Tyrell match has benefits for both sides. Mace and his mother have their own problems with Dorne and it secure's them in the new order with a power block that must be considered even though they aren't apart of the STAB alliance.

As for unruly vassals a royal match is better (but unavailable) but it takes a special kind of stupid to give the same kind of grief Tywinn's father received from his bannerman to someone who is in a marriage alliance with his son and heir when Tywin is in his prime.

Yeah, get out of the Kingsguard and ask Tywin if he could arrange a Tyrell match, as at least one of Mace's sisters should still be single at this point.

You started four fics this week alone, this story included. Will you be able to update them all regularly? Because my desire to keep a story in my alerts is low if I know an author is juggling too many fics to be able to update regularly.

Hopefully SI!Jaime's able to get out of the Kingsguard (and away from Cersei). It might be interesting if Jaime can help build up the Westerlands' navy enough that by the time the Ironborn attack, Tywin can go full Castamere on them before Robert has a chance to say otherwise.

Tell Ned to bring a brace of a dozen crossbowmen plus a Maester & a mid-wife or two in case her health might have been compromised by her long stay at that tower...

Four?

Shadowed Crime, Visions Beyond Death, and this are all I recall. I started The Foot Path of Eternity years ago.

As for updates, Visions Beyond Death is the least likely to see anything like regular updates. Chapter 2 got eaten by the forums and that kinda killed my desire to continue it for the moment, I don't like retyping completed chapters.

The Foot Path of Eternity is updating mostly whenever I feel like writing pure power fantasy, telling a serious story with conflict when the protagonist is a Planeswalker and you utterly despise making characters stupid for plot reasons is difficult at best.

Honestly this is the fic that most interests *me* when it comes to writing, so it's the most likely to be continued out of those four. How long that will last depends on how long it keeps my attention.

eEsssssssssss.

This one intrigues and gets the most prominent interest.
We don't have many Jaime SI, if at all, that he tries to survive and succeed...

I don't think there's even a Cersei SI tho I think one of the authors here tried it when the Cersei SI was very young but unknown circumstances stalled that one...
