Dungeon Core or Ruler fics(light novels) discussion and recs.

So, I'm currently writing a dungeon fic (link below in sig) and really wanted to see if there were any gems I might have. Plus discuss some of the more famous ones with people.

As long as your rec or fic as the dungeon or dungeons as the main theme. Most are usually original but there is a few that cross into fanfic so all are welcome. I'm really interested in talking about how a dungeon develops or how a human in charge may change things.

I know a lot may end up being light novels and those can be risky on the adult themes. So if your rec has it heavy, don't link. A discussion should mostly be fine.

I'm currently reading Dungeon Island. not far in but it seems alright. No memories and eating fish, so not a bad start.

Well off the top of my head, there's Dungeon Keeper Ami which is a Dungeon Keeper Sailor Moon crossover.

There's also Lazy Dungeon Keeper, which involves a human ending up as one of the two in charge of a dungeon. It's a light novel, and has no official translation right now.

I only remember a terrible dungeon WN I read once where the guy just made long hallways with golems equipped with machine guns at the end so that anyone who entered would just die to the bullets before they could do anything.

As if your fantasy adventurer or monster wouldn't have the superhuman endurance to tank that.

I remember that! It was basically gun porn but the author needed a draw so he tacked dungeon on to it.it was.... very gun detailed. Stomp fest really.

I heard some things about it. Not all great. What do you think of it?

And the author just had to make him have the ability to create anything out of thin air so he could produce those guns easily.

Anyway, this is my kind of gun porn in a fantasy setting.

More gun-fu and less "barrage from afar and everyone dies lol"

It's alright, could be better. Could be worse. I could do without the slavery bits, but otherwise it's alright. Worth at least trying it for a bit. And if nothing else, the MC does come up with some interesting ideas to make his dungeon effective...even if there's plenty of stuff that could be improved, or even removed without much issue.

I want to see a dungeon story where the dungeon is being used by humans as some kind of a monster farm. Like a kingdom will dispatch its agents to the dungeon and the dungeon has to negotiate with them or else it would be destroyed as the kingdom doesn't tolerate any monster dungeons popping up in its territory.

I can see that be interesting. Trying to show useful properties of monsters in captivity maybe?

Basically, they're using it as a convenient way to have a literal monster farm that they could constantly farm useful materials from. And only authorized people from the kingdom would be allowed to enter as a safety measure as they don't want anymore noobie adventurers getting themselves killed. Only people they sure are capable of handling the monsters are allowed entry.

Hmm, you can link it to the rankings the adventurer guild (created by the kingdom) is giving to adventurers. Only people with rankings of this and above are allowed to enter Dungeon this.

If a Dungeon has a more varied monster strength, with stronger monsters living in its depths, you could limit weaker adventurers from venturing down a certain level.

Anyone here ever play the dungeon maker series on the PsP? If you are interested in this kind of thing it is a pretty fun game. Build your own dungeon, hunt the monsters that enter, and save the world. An awesome, if fairly unknown, game.

They have it for psp emulators if you want to try it.

I've read some stories like this. I actually have an idea of what I would do if I became a dungeon.

What do you guys think of a boss room trap? Basically the heroes have to open the door and go through a long hallway. The doors will close behind them when they enter the boss room. The entire room will made out of any electric conducting material I can find.

The entire time a bunch of Tesla Coils will be charging and they enter the room they will discharge and annihilate them. If they survive then the lighting element Boss monster will be supercharged and should be able to finish them off.

The point of is that unlike a game where you have second chances no one should survive the trap and reveal the solution to it. This means I will stay safe by not playing fair and insta-killing them.

Untill they send the S tiers and if they die then they send full subjugation army to kill you by sheer numbers.

It does depend on the world. If they can magia defend themselves. Maybe. I mean making a boss room that just murders people it might put people off.

Communictors or magical scrying or just plain escape abilities. If it draws attention. People will try different things.

Hmm i think I'd just make a meatgrinder... Make a giant maze... Make it have some moving walls that move automatically every now and then, a lot of traps, insects(bees, hornets, wasps, ants) and all the creatures I can have that give debuffs and are fast(pixies, ghost types, insects)... and no safe zone in the maze... Then cover the damn wall in fire resistant plants while the walls are made of stone while the plants release different debuffing pheromones and maybe vines. Then use my fast movers to harass the adventurers at random intervals... It won't only keep the adventurers on their toes for hours, but constantly weaken them and allow me to slowly pick them off as they die exhausted.... and if they survive I still absorb their mana for the large amount of time they've spent there...

A grumpy bank auditor gets stuck with a broken-down dungeon and the previous DM's debt.

The anons were supposed to make a fun, challenging dungeon that would get good reviews from adventurers and make them come again. Anons promptly decided to make a spa.

It's an illustrated quest, good sense of humor, some awesome moments from the adventurers. You tend to start rooting for the fun ones.
