Triggerhappy You Gotta Listen to Big Sis!

    Damn you're good.
Winged One, bldude, buytbuyt and 3 others like this.
  4. Nope just lucky. Was refreshing thread 6 for an update and saw your notice.
  5. Btw, Triggerhappy, do you have any idea when you'll be working Derf in (I know you're finding it difficult) I mean, if that Rub al Khali merchant is who I think, you just could have had Derf saying he remembered the guy interested in faeries and offer to help.
  6. Triggerhappy

Triggerhappy You Gotta Listen to Big Sis!

Who do you think he is?
  7. Well the next plot line seems to in part be investigating around Tristania, so assuming Derf is still there, I suppose some one might stumble over it. I imagine a Faerie for instance would atleast have some interest in a talking weapon. It would be different, thus probably rare, and rare items are typically atleast worth looking in to a bit. One might even tell other people about it, if it's not for them, as it could be an interesting discussion topic.
    Captain Hunt likes this.
  8. Ryune

    Ryune Hotel Manager

Holy fuck. I never realized just how god damned many Omake there were.
  9. TheSandman

TheSandman From NERV's Heart I Stab At Thee

Reposting this from the end of the last thread, so that it doesn't vanish into the ether (in case you're wondering why it looks familiar):

Yuuki is going for obscene speed with her build.

And Spriggans are the illusionists, the shapechangers, and the vicious close-range fighters. They can get stuck in and stay there. Imps are more fragile; they need to boom-and-zoom. Imp shapeshifting is also explicitly tied to vampire legends (mist, bats, wolves, blood, that's it), whereas Spriggans have a much broader range.

Figure that the Imps, like the Puca, are relatively specialized in their combat role. If you wanted a more general-purpose fighter, you'd go with a Sylph, a Spriggan or especially a Salamander. Undine too, to some extent; they're still a bit fragile for the front lines, but can abuse healing magic to compensate.

Puca are pretty exclusively support types, unless you can get a group of them together who really know what they're doing. If that happens, they can do buff-related bullshit equivalent to a team full of Medics keeping everyone perpetually Ubercharged in TF2. Plus music, of course; Puca rap battles are more literal than the normal sort, and a hypothetical Puca frontliner is beating the shit out of people with a guitar (hell, there's probably one dude who picked 'Atomsk' as their handle and built their entire character around dual-wielding with a guitar in one hand and a bass in the other).

Cait Sith, played to their utmost racial affinities, are Pokemon trainers. Except they actually beat up the other trainers before stealing their money, instead of just beating up their Pokemon.

    Endgame Leprechauns are Tony Stark.

Gnomes? Alchemy for fun and profit. Potions, poisons, potent potables. That's not their first line of defense, though; their first line of defense involves using Messrs. Hamilton, Jackson, Grant and Franklin to convince the opponent they'd rather do something else. Also, given that they're the dorfs of ALO, they probably had Drunken Fist as a Hidden Skill.

EDIT: Oh yes, and the mention of Yuuki reminds me: will we be seeing the Sleeping Knights soon?

    Imps have Darkness magic.

At the absolute highest levels, you would get some stupidly powerful spells (think SMT endboss or bonus boss uniques). But for most of the tree, it's debuffs and stealth assists.

Salamanders, Undines and Sylphs are the ones with more in the way of direct combat magic, I'd think. Salamanders do fire, Undines do water, Sylphs do air. Everyone else can learn at least the lower tiers of the damage-dealing magic, but those races have actual affinities for them.

Oh yes, and I suppose there's one other aspect to Darkness magic, extrapolating from Recon's suicide-bombing of the World Tree Guardians: sacrifice. Take a hit to your health for a buff, boost one stat by draining your other stats, etc, etc. Needless to say, this branch of the Darkness tree got much more dangerous to use after the Transition. Those Imps that still do use it are even more heavily slanted towards short bursts of extreme lethality, because if it turns into a slugfest they're starting it crippled.

Undines are specialized healers, not fighters. Gnomes would probably have decent combat magic since they specialize in earth, and I'd expect darkness would also have pretty good DoT and debuff spells.

A la Final Fantasy Dark Knight? Buff stats at the cost of health, then steal health from enemies? That second bit seems like it'd fit with the vampire motif.

Water magic probably has some combat applications. Especially if it can lead into ice magic.

But yes, Undines are healers. It's just that if an Undine wants to go that route, they can crank their endurance up to an inordinately high level and make up for their relative weakness and fragility by healing from anything that isn't an instant kill or sufficient DOT to outlast their healing magic.

The speed demon route that Asuna picked in SAO-canon is the other possible route for a combat-specced Undine to take, but given that you needed a much higher starting skill level to not die over and over again thanks to zigging when you should have zagged, the vast majority of Undines who wanted to punch people in the face handle combat by turning into The Thing That Wouldn't Fucking Die.

Yeah, darkness is a vicious debuff school. What it lacks in versatility compared to other support schools (its buffs are all the sacrifice sort, and virtually all have the <<Target:Self>> Attribute) it makes up for in effectiveness. DOT would be stuff like Cloudkill, I suppose, more a matter of stacking damaging effects onto the debuffs. Generally, though, darkness gets used either to set somebody up to be one-shotted or to let the person using it hit their target over and over with more conventional weapons while making it impossible for the target to even figure out where the attacks are coming from (much less fight back). The ultimate darkness debuff would inflict complete sensory deprivation on the target or targets for the spell's duration, for example.

Earth magic would really shine on crowd control and defense, I think. Throw up a wall to intercept an attack, turn a field into quicksand, create intense and extremely localized earthquakes... it also probably has some spells for dealing with poisons of all sorts too, as a nod to using charcoal and so forth to neutralize those. Which, of course, would synergize nicely with Gnomish alchemy. If you've played either of the Witcher games, figure that a combat-specced Gnome looks like a Geralt focused on maxing out the Swordsmanship and Alchemy trees.

If it's a thing, Leprechauns would have Metal magic (in the sense of the Chinese element). Damned if I know who would get Wood magic, though. Maybe botany is the alternative to zoology for the Cait Sith?

Note: This is ultimately, barring word of TH or enough other people who (unlike me) can write, just my speculation. If I'm coming up with stuff that flat-out conflicts existing SAO and/or HalO canon, please assume it's out of ignorance and not malice, and let me know so that I can avoid the same errors in the future.

Sounds reasonable, although I think it would have to have been set up to make sure that you expend more health than you would reasonably get back from the enemies you'd be able to kill while the buff was active to avoid lone Imps casually slaughtering their way through entire armies.

Now, an incredibly good Imp player might still be able to set it up such that he or she could come out health-neutral or health-positive from this and thus be able to keep the buffs going through an entire enemy raid group, but by that point we're pretty much talking Yuuki-level skill and stats. Epic-level players casually murdering ordinary players wouldn't have been seen as being as much of a problem; combat between champions was probably an expected phenomenon in ALO.

Now this is not intended as a bad thing, or as a good thing, just as something I was curious about, so kept track of.

The last thread had 4817 posts before TriggerHappy posted the 'next thread' post. This lasted from May 28th, to June, 24th, for an average of 172 posts per day. Of these posts, 391 come from Vaermina, giving him 8.1% of the thread's total posts, or about 14 posts per day.

In retrospect, I'd have liked to have kept track of TH's posts across the thread, but didn't think of it until much later.

Just some statistics from an observer.

Personally, I see it as closer to Blood Magic from the Dragon Age franchise.

Either way, have we actually recieved confirmation from TH that there is a significant Goth subculture in the Imp population? In almost every game I have every played, where it is available, the dark/stealthy role has been overpopulated. Everybody wants to style themselves a skilled sniper or world-class assassin (its annoying as hell too), no gothic tendencies required.
  25. Water magic includes the use of ice spells.
