By Ryuan: The Brutes 1 The Brutes 2 The collision is what woke you up. You’d been asleep, no… suppressed for so long. In the end you were the last one. The last person as the monstrous entities that consumed your world. Maybe that’s why you found yourself at the surface of the shard’s collective. The one person whose will who stood up at the end and guided the shard. Unfortunately the entity you were a part of kept you from doing more than what felt like sleep walking thanks to their restrictions. But right then, that jarring. Your entity had collided with a third. Shards were exchanged and the impact caused yourself to change from sleepwalking to barely aware. Your conscious and senses were all muted but you could vaguely understand that the entity was experimenting with a brand new power. And with it a brand new method of assimilation. However, it was distracted and that distraction proved disastrous. Too focused on the future to pay attention to the present. Even as it instructed its mate about the plan, it fell ever closer towards its doom. It shed a shard it shouldn’t have, and in that instant the path to victory it had been crafting ended in disaster. The impact with the new world is what caused your shard to break off, still somehow functional. You were free! Drowsy, disoriented, flawed, and not at all at 100%, but free of the entity that had so long ago enslaved you. But now you needed to find a host. As you began to search for a host though, you felt yourself begin to remember. Before the entity. Before the end. Before you became a shard you were... XXXXX [ ] The Mover (Sonic the Hedgehog: Sonic the Hedgehog) A guy who just wanted to go fast. When that thing came you and your friends thought that the gems would help you match him. But too many died… Too many of your friends died in trying to collect them. You managed to grab them all, but by the time you did, you were the last of the ones capable of using their full power. Maybe if the future hero and your dark rival had survived you could have managed to beat them. But on your own you were overwhelmed. Still, the power of the gems let you retain a part of yourself even as your entire world was warped into this single shard and you’ll do your best to help the one that receives your shard get a better ending. [ ] The Shaker (Arcueid Brunestud: Tsukihime) The White Princess. Though centuries had passed you still loved humans. Especially that one with blue eyes more monstrous than yourself. He was long dead, but he left you with a desire to protect the species that your benefactor could have cared less about. The entities were a monster that threatened both and so you fought them with all your strength. Even as you called upon the full power of your birthright you found yourself too weak to challenge both entities at the same time. The world was too weakened by humans and times to stand against them. The moon too lacked the power to help you grasp victory. In the end, you put up a grand resistance, but it all proved futile as you and the world you were charged in protecting were destroyed. [ ] The Brute (Son Goku: Dragonball) The world’s champion defender. Everyone saw you as the strongest even after you disappeared to train after facing your greatest ordeal yet. Your raw power put some very real fear into the Entities. However, raw power was not enough to simply kill them. In the end, you were overwhelmed by the entity that would eventually absorb you and your world despite your power being more appropriate for the other. All because it outsmarted you and used techniques so exotic and more outrageous than the pink demon that you couldn’t hope to cope. But maybe your host can figure out a better way to use your strengths. [ ] The Breaker (Emiya Shirou: Fate/Stay Night) A hero of justice. It was kind of sad actually. You weren’t even on your homeworld when you became a shard. Instead you were somewhere, strange. Between dimensions. You’d pushed back the golden owner in order to take him out at the cost of your own life. However, even though you succeeded, before you yourself died you collided with the entity by chance. Normally the collision would have simply resulted in your death, however you were strange. A single man and yet at the same time more. A person and yet a concept. An individual and yet a world. For this reason alone you and your reality were made into a shard. A lonely existence but that was alright, because helping others definitely wasn’t a mistake. You’d proven that to the man in red with your own hands. [ ] The Master (Protagonist: Persona 3) The messiah. With your ascension you saved your world from one threat. The emergence of the entities forced the world’s various hidden factions into action and for a short happy time you were no longer needed to hold back the night and the beast. Many fell during the battle, both human, god, and demon. In the end though, you used the power that once saved the world and focused it into a banishment spell, your various masks working in tandem with you, your eternal bonds strengthening you, and the will of humanity at your back. True you failed to land a fatal blow on either entity and only managed to push them both back that they lost your world, but you had already sacrificed yourself once to seal an apocalypse away. At least this time you knew what you were getting into and got to say a proper goodbye. [ ] The Tinker (Ruby Rose: RWBY) A girl at a school for warriors. That was a long time before your final showdown with the entities though… By the time you and your old school friends confronted them directly all of you were well into adulthood. It was your partner and her company who found a way to advance your technology and soul techniques ahead so far and discovered ways to make it challenge the empowered and even the entities themselves. Still, it came too late. The heiress had only unlocked the secrets a month before the slaughter began. Perhaps it was BECAUSE of her discovery that it happened so soon. Still, a month was enough to make your last stand army powerful enough to be a real threat, even though you fell in the end nonetheless. Your personal power isn’t all that exceptional, but within the shard you’ve got the knowledge to make not just your bearer, but an entire world rise above their limits. [ ] The Blaster (Takamachi Nanoha: Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha) An ace among aces. You, your team, your friends, and hundreds of other mages rose to fight against the entities when they invaded. Your power was great and when you released the limiters in your calculations that protected living beings, it became so much greater than even you believed possible. Still, that wasn’t enough. In the end, all you could do was hold them back long enough for most of the world’s population, including your adopted daughter to escape to other worlds. The entities won, absorbing you, your friends, your team, and so many other brave defenders. But the ships’ weapons firing on the world from orbit made sure that it was a costly victory for both sides. [ ] The Thinker (Accelerator: A Certain Magical Index/Scientific Railgun) The strongest. In a city filled with thousands of super powered beings you stood at the very top. The invasion by the entities really just pissed you off more than anything. Even as they used one of their shards to start blocking powers, you analyzed them and started to find workarounds and even replicate the abilities almost as quickly as they implemented them. In the end, with everyone else powerless except for the damn hero, you did your part to hold them in place. The hero’s damn hand managed to freak those two bastards the hell out and they retreated right away. Though not before they snagged you and about a quarter of the city after dropping half a dozen new ways to shut off your power and make you all into a shard. Still, you were definitely still the strongest. It wasn’t any surprise that you managed to come out on top of the shard. [ ] The Striker (Ryougi Shiki: Kara no Kyoukai) The reluctant killer. It was such a pain, having to fight monsters like the entities. Still, it was better for you to do it right away than for them to get too far in and manage to hurt that idiot. It really was a pain though. Your power wasn’t working consistently and the cores of the entities were buried too deeply. In the end you got tired of trying to kill them and just cut a way into another dimension. Then your body gave out. Stupid things absorbed you soon after. At least that idiot and her were alright. Besides, you met an old part of yourself in that battle and got a glimpse a third side too. Now if only that lazy ass third side had actually gotten off its butt and helped you kill those things... [ ] The Changer (Kaleidostick Ruby: Fate/Kaleid Prisma Ilya) A great and powerful device of untold potential and many forms. It was completely unfair! Who would have thought that mouthing off at your creator would cause him to send you hurtling through dimensions as a means of disciplining you. That in itself wouldn’t have been SO bad if you hadn’t collided with one of these stupid entities. Oh, how cursed you were to be so popular that it would decide to make you into a shard. Still, you had some nice goodies stored away and some more upgrades since your adventure with your sister and your previous bearers. You’ll just have to resume your pursuit of love and justice as shard this time around. [ ] The Trump (John Pluto Smith: Campione) A Supreme King. In a world of Gods you were a giant that managed to slay them and steal their power for yourself. It is a pity that the seventh was unable to unify all of your kind and the rest of the world against the entities. Had he succeeded then perhaps your forces wouldn’t have taken so many losses. Still, at least thanks to the efforts of the band he created much of the entities prizes were lost. Even at the end you were among the few pieces of the world that those monsters that surpassed gods and devils were able to acquire for their shard before being driven off. That young king may have failed to save you, but even though you were lost the world itself was saved at his hands. He and the rest of the world never did discover your true identity or even gender now that you think about it. Then again, you wore a mask from the beginning, it is only fitting that you wore it to the very end. [ ] The Stranger (Kumagawa Misogi: Medaka Box) The weakest of the weak. After you finished school you left the world behind and began to erase all proof of your life. Many years later, only the memories of your friends were left to prove you once existed. When those stupid things showed up, you expected your old friends to take care of them. But time had weakened most of them, and even though a few retained their former glorious strengths, they were nothing compared to the entities. Even the generation that followed was simply too weak to match them. In the end, you were the last line of defense, and even though used your power to the fullest and took it to heights you never dared dream of, even though you brought one of your enemies down low, even though you came so close to victory, in the end you were just a failure and you failed where it mattered most. It was sad that you couldn’t become the stereotypical protagonist even at the very end. You’re not sure why you became the dominant personality in the shard after you failed, but you won’t let it go to waste. After all, maybe you can be more than the lowest of the low now that you are no longer a mere human. XXXXX Alright people, here’s the deal. You are a shard. Yes, you read that correctly, you are a SHARD not Taylor, a side character, a SBer/OC tossed into the wormverse or any other person who can take direct action in this quest. As such, this is gonna play out quite a bit differently than normal quests due to you not being able to directly control the character you get attached to. However, there is a fun little twist to this. I have written up profiles on twelve different potential shards. They all have a few things in common. Each of the shards has a single governing conscious that will take actions for the shard. This single conscious is actually one person from the world that the entities attacked before turning it into a shard. Each of these shards is also the result of the entities encroaching upon a popular fictional world. That’s right, you have the chance to pick a shard based off a fictional universe and then take some of the powers associated with that universe in order to empower a single future parahuman. To make things even more fun, you are one of the few surviving Eden shards and despite the death of your entity you are still very much alive as a now independent shard. Now for a nice little game for your shard selection. I have not outright stated what universe and character each of the shards are based off of. However, many players have shown that they like to guess. As such, I figured, why not reward you guys! So here’s the deal. Right now, all the shards are currently nerfed heavily. While eventually any one of these shards can easily be muchkinned to put you at Triumvirate level, at present the shards are I guess you could say, sleepy. If however you guess what character an option is, the shard will be more awake when it latches onto a host and makes a parahuman, resulting in a better initial power set from the trigger event. Get all twelve options correct and there’s a nice mystery prize waiting for your end choice. Don’t get too obsessed with picking the absolute strongest shard though. I repeat at the weakest, these shards have the potential to make your parahuman Triumvirate level. All of them have the ability to help you face off against Scion whether it be through direct or indirect action. As such, don’t think that any one of these shards are weak or bad. In the end, pick something you like and a power set you think you could have fun with. You have 24 hours from when this post is put up to guess before I close the votes and seal the bonuses off. Now let’s make a shard and have some fun! EDIT: For those of you just joining, all 12 shards have been guessed. As such, you get the bonus, which in this case is a budding of the number two choice onto the number one choice. Basically in addition to the powers of the main shard, you are also given a slightly nerfed ability of the second place shard to power up the main choice. Remember people, only vote for one choice, and that ALL of these shards are already REALLY strong. You don't need to try and optimize the choices as I'd intended to make this game winnable even if you had picked a shard without even guessing the identity. Just pick something you like! RWBY Shard Profile Admin: Ruby Rose Bud Moderator: Chibi Accelerator Moderator: Weiss Schnee Shard Synchronization: Rank-C Even though your direct influence on her has been relatively low, Flannery has shown herself to be incredibly similar to Ruby Rose anyways. The act of taking a name based on the oath she swore, which happened to coincide with the name of her Shard’s admin as well as her decision to just want to be herself served to act as a new link between them, causing their synchronization to make a leap. At this rank the two of you are synced well enough that when studying Flannery’s Tinkering, Ruby can input intuitive hints on how things work, allowing Flannery to understand her own Tinker Tech more quickly. You can also give her a better general idea of what the end product will be of any Tinker Device she creates will be, before she begins actual construction, with the image sharpening more easily as she builds more of it. Also, in times of extreme stress, Ruby can momentarily send Flannery combat movements and tactics in a similar way to when she sends her Tinker Urges, allowing Flannery to move with much greater ease and experience than she actually possesses. Tinker Tech Trees Artificial Dust Production: Level 2/5 A process discovered by Weiss Schnee after nearly a decade of research, which she began in Beacon Academy. During their school years, Blake had idly noted that while the Schnee Dust Company was doing well with its mining of dust at that time, Dust was in fact a finite resource and she wondered in the company would continue to do so well if the Dust mines began to dry up. Though mostly just a passing thought to the others, Weiss took the implications of this very seriously. She began branching out her studies to include research on the nature of Dust and how it came to form. Something that while other scientists had speculated on, hadn’t bothered to do much serious research apart from a few “eccentrics” who lacked the funding needed to do more thorough studies. After graduating from Beacon and working with the rest of Team RWBY as huntresses for a few years, Weiss’s father suddenly passed away. After a period of mourning, Weiss reluctantly retired from being a huntress in order to take over the Schnee Dust Company. While running the company, she went against the wishes of the board and pushed forward a major study of the nature of Dust and how it was formed, hiring many of the independent researchers who had already begun studying this question. Eventually there was a breakthrough when Weiss was 24. Though it took an extremely long time compared to mining, the researchers figured out how to use Aura to empower crystal like substances such as gemstones, crystal, or even glass and turn it into Dust. You know that there was more to this process, but the restrictions on it are too tight right now. Still, you do have a nice little shortcut that you managed to sneak by the restrictions. If you find a gem with a lot of latent aura compatibility you might be able to cheat and speed up the process a bit. Aura Theory: 2/5 You remember that Aura is an energy that all beings with souls possess. As such all humans have the potential to use Aura. It had numerous benefits to usage, not the least being enhanced physical capabilities and on a more personal level their Semblance. A kind of natural affinity to Aura usage that allowed aura users to more easily gain an exotic ability by following their Aura’s natural tendency. However, even on Vytal not everyone had fully awakened it. The fact that Jaune didn’t even know what it was is proof of that. Pyrhha awakening method was actually pretty advanced. You never actually learned it yourself. You do know however that even if they’re unaware of it, people do actually emit very low levels of aura even if they are not actively using it. More importantly though, you remember that the presence of Dust actually increases the likelihood of a person’s aura awakening. The more Dust that is around, the higher a chance that someone might awaken aura on their own and begin using more than just a trickle like most civilians use. Vytal Material Science and Engineering: 2/5 Ugh, you feel like you’re in Signal again… You remember quite a bit about how Vytal Metallurgy works in theory, but a lot of the theory is still locked away in the depths of the shard. As things stand though, you remember how to use Dust and Aura to enhance various physical materials as you fabricate them, however right now it’s limited only to metallurgy. Also, you know there are much finer techniques for how to treat materials with Dust and Aura and gain much better effects. You also remember a little bit about how to use the two in order to create “aura spaces” in the things you make, though not nearly as good as the really advanced stuff. As things stand, you can probably figure out how to make modern mundane materials as durable as the various weapons at Beacon. You could also add aura pockets about as impressive as the ones you made for the original Cresecent Rose. Still beyond what this world can pull off, but not quite as impressive as some of the really awesome weapons you saw later on in life. You miss Crescent Rose III… By the time you were an adult you’d made it even more awesome! Though… Weiss did scold you for staying cooped up for a week to design the laser blade extensions and Dust Particle Cannon upgrades. Dust Properties and Application: 3/5 You remember all the elemental properties of Dust as well as how dust can be used to enhance materials with the help of Aura. As a bonus you were able to remember how to make dust into cartridges and actively use it in combat with the aid of a weapon. In addition you can make “special cartridges” which can have simple enhanced effects though they require special preparation and at least Grade C Dust to create. With the emergence of Weiss after the greater synchronization with your host, you have gained access to knowledge on how Glyphs work, though without a semblance for them your host cannot use them in battle for casting. You also cannot remember how to use Dust for “Rituals”. However, it does allow you to inscribe glyphs onto Aura Technology with enough time. Though this process requires Grade C Dust at the very least. You also now remember how to make some of the civilian grade Dust Batteries and Generators that were often used to power machines back in Vytal, though military grade power sources are still sealed. Such things require Grade C Dust however. Thinker Bud: Accelerated Thought The gift from the original Accelerator, it has since been changed by Aura into a chibi form of the original. He sure gave you one heck of a bud to help out. It’s a purely thinker related bud and it has to do with accelerated thought processes and capacity. Geeze, if the calculations this thing is capable of are weaker than the guy’s full power you’re kinda scared. As things stand this bud here could probably do a lot of things, including seeing how the world works in terms of vectors, Mutitasking with up to three or four different trains of thought going on at the same time, or even heavily observing the tech and processes you feed to your host and gradually giving them understanding as to the process and physics of their creation. -XXXXX- Flannery Traits Current Official Power Rating Tinker 5 Thinker 4 Mover 2 Brute 2 All Range Combatant: E-Rank Someone who can fight at any range. Her chosen combat style leaves her well balanced. At this ranking she has just begun her journey into this style of combat and will require a lot of time and effort before she is considered competent. Resolute: C-Rank A measure of how much willpower an individual has in the face of sacrifice and losses. At this rank Flannery has a very strong will, however she tends to be slightly stubborn about doing things that go against her values. She is willing to make sacrifices with minimal hesitation, but won’t do so solely for the sake of efficiency. Lively: B-Rank A measure of one’s natural exuberance and level of activity. At this rank, Flannery is known to be a bundle of energy and very enthusiastic about various things. While she can feel down at times, normally she prefers to stay happy and upbeat. To her life always has the potential to be good. Speed Semblance: E-Rank Like Ruby, Flannery has an Aura Semblance for Speed. What this means in practical terms is that she can use her aura to almost instinctively boost her movement speed and drastically increase her velocity. At this rank she can do very short bursts of speed and has trouble controlling them. Aura Mastery Progression Combat Aura: E-Rank This trait determines how good Flannery is at using Aura in combat without guidance from the Shard. At this rank Flannery is as good with Aura as someone in Vytal who has just awoken Aura and is durable enough to take few shots from small arms fire without taking damage, though it will heavily deplete her aura. She is also as strong and agile as professional soldiers despite having the body of a 13 year old girl. Enchantment Aura: E-Rank This trait determines how good Flannery is at using Aura in enhancing Aura Tech and producing Dust without guidance from the Shard. At this rank Flannery can enhance mundane materials with intense effort and make gems into Grade E Dust. Tinker Tech Comprehension Artificial Dust Production: Level 0/5 Flannery does not yet have any concrete knowledge of how this process actually works. She requires more time and practice while using Accelerated Thought to observe the process. Aura Theory: 0.5/5 Flannery knows that Aura gives her enhanced physical capabilities and has stumbled upon her semblance. However, she doesn’t know much of the theory beyond that and needs time to observe it using Accelerated Thought to better understand things. Vytal Material Science and Engineering: 0/5 Flannery has no knowledge of this branch of the tech tree. Dust Properties and Application: 0.5/5 She knows if she mixes Dust with water it can make a glowy drink that gives powers. For some reason though it has to be really good Dust. Needless to say, this requires time for her to study. XXXXX The Los Angeles Wards (2001) Red Tail (Supervisor and Adult Leader) Real Name: Maria Baron Age 27 Mover 6, Shaker 3 Power: Aerokinesis, though range is limited to fifty feet away from her. Vigilance (Unofficial Teen Leader) Real Name: Charlotte Merriel Age 17 Thinker 7 Power: Identification of all potential threats within a 1 mile radius, with an indication of the severity of the threat and likelihood that the threats would act. She was the most coolheaded of the group and the unofficial leader among the teens themselves. Anchor Real Name: Ralph Johnson Age 16 Brute 5, Striker 4, Breaker 2 Power: Touch based density increasing with no upper limit, though it slows down the longer he keeps increasing a target’s density. His power works on himself, though is otherwise subject to the Manton Effect. Fraternal twin of Floater. 2nd Generation cape. His father was a shaker style gravity manipulator called Loadout and his mother is a normal human. Floater Real Name: Greg Johnson Age 16 Mover 5, Striker 4, Breaker 2 Power: Touch based density reduction with a lower limit of zero, though the power slows down in reduction rate as the density of the object approaches the limit. His power works on himself, though is otherwise subject to the Manton Effect. Fraternal twin of Anchor. 2nd Generation cape. His father was a shaker style gravity manipulator called Loadout and his mother is a normal human. Soundbyte Real Name: Sylvia Walters Age 15 Blaster 3, Shaker 3 Power: Sound Manipulation up to 100 yards away. Her control increases the closer to herself she manipulates sound and she is capable of forming “Sonic Stun Blasts” by creating pockets of sound and amplifying them right next to her body and firing them up to 200 yards away, though power decreases as range increases. She also had an eidetic memory for sounds, but hadn’t bothered to get her rating changed saying it was just a minor detail and rating were ultimately unimportant. Magnitude Real Name: Darrell Grant Age 17 Shaker 8 Power: Geokinesis. However he cannot create matter though his range seems to extend up to half a mile.
