The Legend of Korra: Book 4--A: Matter

Great stuff. I wish we could hear more of Korra's thoughts and feelings. It reads like a prologue so there isn't too much to judge, but I hope you've got more where this came from. It sounds like you've already got an idea of what you want to do with the story, which is good.

Oh man, this has potential.

There's this word in German I'd love to call that Arnook guy right now, but I don't know how to spell it. It roughly translates as "A guy with a face begging to eat my fist."

Mecha Guru
Is Arnook the same guy who was the Chief of the Northern Tribe during Aang's time? Even I doubt that for Katara is elderly and such therefore this Arnook would possibly be a relative of some sort?

what is that in english?
Corpuscules are particles - I would guess atoms. I.e. manipulation of atoms. FMA!Alchemy or some such? Control over the states of matter, over the properties of matter.

Phlogiston is heat, the "element" contained within bodies that is released upon combustion. Most likely translating into vector manipulation

Elan vital is "life force", or the force of self-organization of complex structures. So, entropic manipulation, probably.

Quantum energy is light, I think. Electromagnetic force. Heat, light, lightning.

This actually covers pretty much everything "classical" bending can do.

This could be very interesting. So, from what I understood, Korra got some sort of vision from the canon!future, and will now try to change the outcome of the events? To look at the situation and bending differently?

I love how you show both sides of the Equalist both the good and the bad, unlike in the cartoon. Also was that Professor Unalaq the same Unalaq from canon, just you know having made different choices? One thing that will just utterly destroy the current balance is guns. If the Equalist or whoever invents guns and manages to get them to even just 1870 level. The whole balance of power will change.

Love it so far. It does, however, feel like the plot has yet to leave the station. The momentum is still being built up. I'm looking forward to seeing how things explode when the story really gets going.

I agree. I think if I were a good enough writer I could make it work--see Gunnerkrigg Court for an example of how a skilled writer/artist can have a very slow start to the story and still make it gripping the whole way through. Or I could change Korra's character around so much that it's not necessary to build things up so much. Instead, I chose to stick with Korra's original character (for the most part) but without being a good enough writer to make it work.

OK, few things:

1. Nice to see Tenzin's realizing he can't really teach Korra spirtual stuff.

2. Honestly, Republic City's a damn pot that's about 20 secs from boiling over.

3. Whatever moron was responsible for not bothering to train Korra in a halfway decent manner needs to be beaten with a truncheon. Repeatedly.

4. I'm looking forward to seeing Jie Ming's reveal as a Equalist. Preferrably at teatime when she reveals she drugged the tea.

5. Also, here's hoping Amon's not some waterbender like canon did.

I really wish this was getting more attention. It's slow to build up, but it gradually grips me the deeper in I get.

Hmm, moving openly means either they're using disposable cannon fodder, or they're damn confident in their abilities to weather retalliation.

Or the idiot who authorized it is about to get shot.

And there goes Korra, throwing napalm and Wily Pete onto the smoldering embers of Republic City.

Well, at least the construction crews will be able to make some cash rebuilding the place. That being said, Korra might want to find out the truth about the hospital before declaring her little crusade....

You read fast.

It is rather sudden, mostly because the plot and character arcs have all changed fairly dramatically from where they were aimed at in the first chapter, and I didn't quite realize what was happening until I got this far. This also probably explains the confusion this story is apparently causing.

Well, I can only think that Korra personally doing all she can to repair the damage, and making an abject public apology will manage to generate anything positive out of this mess. She basically just served the Equalists the propaganda story of all propaganda stories.
